    A great band and this is my favourite Song by them. So melodic and powerful! One of the greatest concerts I've been to was ChThoniC in Flensburg, Germany on december 26th 2013. I remember it as if it was yesterday. Sadly only about 35 people were there. I actually counted, because it was possible. Anyway, great show, great music and very kind people. I bought a copy of their album Bú Tik and had it signed by all of the band members. Do shia

    only Jesse is (sorta?) Taiwanese since he is considered as Aboriginal Taiwanese, rest are decedents of Chinese from mainland China after WWII
    so tell me, how are they not related to Chinese?

      +heintsi89 greatness of war? you know nothing about this band

    • @heintsi89
      @heintsi89 Před 8 lety

      +Yen Kuo that might be true, discovered band about 2 year ago. And well, not about greatness of wars but about wars , survivors of war someway or other. I'd also be happy to hear if you told what the lyrics actually mean.

    • @fodkastir
      @fodkastir Před 8 lety +9

      +heintsi89 First I want to say sorry for being rude, and here is my understanding of this band: There was a period that Taiwanese were ruled by Japanese, and people were send to fight WWII in the name of emperor of Japan. This band wrote lots of song about this history to wake Taiwanese’s sense of national self-determination, or simply remind who we are. And the topic of this song "oceanquake", is a kind of Kamikaze boat, built with bomb and used to destroy bigger ship by hitting it. Some Taiwanese participated in these suicide missions, dead and never had chance to go back their hometown. I don’t think this band is telling us how bad Japanese was, to me it is reminding me the sadness of war and the sadness of fighting others war.

    • @heintsi89
      @heintsi89 Před 8 lety +3

      +Yen Kuo Nah it's ok, you weren't really rude either. And thank you for telling detailed information. Clarified a lot about meaning of their songs! And didn't really understand this oceanquake was about boat. Quite interesting, yet really sad thing. I will continue listen them and hopefully will see them at a gig somewhere sometime. :)

      +heintsi89 this English version of lyrics was transformed, modified and a little simplified for the fittness of English.
      the original Taiwanese lyrics are much more detailed ,specifically characterized and much more epic

    dude they got nothing to do with the chinese, they are from Taiwan

  • @selphydeg
    @selphydeg Před 10 lety +4

    That would depend on your definition of Chinese. I am a US citizen, but ethnically, I am Chinese. Unless you are an aborigine, your ancestor likely came from China before or after WWII. Taiwanese celebrate holidays that originated in China. Taiwanese enjoy cuisines that contain both Chinese and Taiwanese elements. The language you speak, guo yu, is pretty much Mandarin. Even your band's name 閃靈, those are Chinese characters. It's one thing to hate the politics of mainland, many people do, but quite another to outright deny your heritage just because you hate the politics. I know Taiwanese people who insist that Taiwanese culture has nothing to do with China when all evidence points to the contrary. I also know Chinese who insist that Taiwan is part of China when Taiwan is in fact a very different country from China. I find both sides to be ridiculous in denying the obvious.

    • @TYCK3
      @TYCK3 Před 9 lety

      selphydeg i don't think the band denies their Chinese heritage, they are simply concerned (via their music) with Taiwanese history and identity; which are both entities separate from that of China's.
      The term 'Chinese' has become synonymous to a person from Mainland China, only natural for us Taiwanese to deny that.
      but mate, I am glad you acknowledge that Taiwan is a different country from China.
