  • John "Toast" Oast from Fishyaker.com and the Johnson Outdoors Adventure On the Water Elite Pro Staff discusses the need to register and number your kayak or canoe when motorized. This would include both gas and electric trolling motors. For more kayak fishing and rigging videos, visit Fishyaker.com or the Fishyaker CZcams channel.

    I just talked to a DNR officer and here in Michigan yes you do even if it is only a trolling motor good for three years at around 20 dollars. the only exception is if no motor at all the canoe or kayak be less than 16 feet in length .

    It’s says in Ca if your water craft is larger than 8 feet you are required to register. Only if you are in a racing kayak without any accessories than you are no required .

    In Puerto Rico, we had to register our pedal boat once we put the trolling motor on it, we follow the same laws than USA so Im guessing you need to register your kayak once you add a motor to it (electric or gas)

    registration is required for my kayak in my state with a trolling motor. I usually play by the rules but not in this case, piss on them. Im not painting the side of my yak, i will pay the penalty every time.

    I'm confuse. I register my kayak because it is required for kayak that are longer then 10 feet in my state. Is this the same thing as registering a kayak with a motor or are they both different?

    • @fishyaker
      @fishyaker  Před 7 lety +1

      Depends upon the state. Some states only require registering if it has non-human powered propulsion. Others also have a length restriction for all boats.

  • @explorationd2026
    @explorationd2026 Před 5 lety +2

    • @fishyaker

      Typically, but some states may still require a launch permit for state accesses.

    • @fishyaker

      Motorized or not, you need a white light after dark. I have heard mixed requirements for green/red lights if motorized. Anyone know the USCG specifics?

    • @rackemwells
      @rackemwells Před 4 lety

      fishyaker I’m VERY familiar, I run a 2.5 merc on my canoe. Once you register a vessel, it’s governed by that registration. You indeed need all the required equipment for said vessel, to include navigation lights, day/night signals, maybe even a fire extinguisher depending, your paperwork, maybe a throwable PFD, etc etc

I bought a 4 hp 4 stroke motor so its quieter and better for the environment than a 2 stroke burning oil im a good dude dont rape the waters of fish. Dont trash and pollute and i buy my fishing license now i need to pat the state to use my weed wacker motor in my own bucket.
