Xavi feels that his choice of players in transfer market is non existent, all he want a proper winger and a cdm. And they gave him felix and romeu but they spent the money on Roque who doesn't really solve any existing questions, xavi started clicking when gavi is available with all proper rotational trails, but due absence of versatile profiled midfield, his tactics could not come to frution. So, the team has suffered.
xavi didn't do anything wrong, the players are either super or 3rd rate 1 trick ponies, unable to rotate them without loosing control in tactics, which is why xavi tried multiple tactics through out the season for different combinations (due to rotations and injuries). The players who are 3rd tier got confused with those changes every game and lost their concentration too often resulting many chances for opposition.
Xavi is a tactical mastermind, bench is letting him down basically. Any other manager will also have similar long seasons without proper backups,

His time at barca has been fruitful. He won the la liga in his first season, integrated lots of masia players into the line up from cubarsi, fermin lopez, gavi and balde. He is a top coach and will return to the club one day on his second stint. He took the risk of taking the barca job early though.
Flicks arrival will offer verticality to barca. It will lead to a change of mentality and physique for every soft barca player.
