I was diagnosed two years ago because of my daughter was diagnosed. Since then Ive been on meds and my very first revelation was i became aware of time passing. Before i was on meds tho, a watch or wall clock was simply a device that indicated how late i was for the next thing. Being aware of time passing was like a colour blind person seeing colour for the first time.
Its a steep learning curve but good to have an understanding of my stumbling blocks and superpowers at last ;)

I know this video wasn't recently posted, but I'm hoping this will help others. Adult ADHD left untreated, especially if symptoms like depression and anxiety have been treated instead, can truly delay someone's success. I'm 42, and wasn't diagnosed as a child, and was labelled a problem child. Despite having had very high scores on standardized tests, I eventually was overwhelmed in high school, and became a drop out. All the signs were present for an ADHD diagnosis, but I was instead treated for depression, and later for anxiety. At this point I'm confident that ADHD is at the core of my difficulties, but I'm finding it quite difficult to solicit help from my doctors. I hope there are doctors in my area that can help, but without a blast of caffeine and nicotine, I'm currently barely able to function.

Me too. I've told her my history, my childhood problems and my pre-adulthood problems. I dropped out from three universities. To learn and sit quietly for a lecture was like a torture for me. And in my adulthood I keep changing jobs. I'm tired and super exhausted now. From the outside its looks like I'm happy healthy person. But I'm dying inside. I'm struggling to stay afloat. I'm struggling to function normally everyday

Hey, I feel this. I'm going to be 40 this year and I'm only just now realising that so many of the struggles I've had could be as a result of undiagnosed ADHD. So many times my life has been derailed and it's felt like I'm picking up the pieces and again and can't gather momentum. I coasted all the way through school and did really well barely having to put in any effort, crashed and burned in university, and it feels like I've been walking around in circles ever since.

I'm only 29 and just realizing, and just got diagnosed as well. I also did extremely well on standardized tests, lost all my homework and books, which really started to show in 7th grade and up. Went from As to all C's and a D when I dropped out after 11th grade. I just thought I was lazy as I knew what I HAD to do, I would just never do it, or lose interests after a few minutes.

Kissalude I completely agree. I'm so glad I read your comment I'm convinced I have ADHD and I'm an adult. But having a psyche actually diagnose me is so difficult. It could be cause of their assumption that I might want drugs. All I get from them is the stupid depression diagnosis. I just need help with my ADHD!! Anyway, thanks for commenting it's good to know I'm not the only one.

I'm 41 and was only diagnosed with ADD about a year ago. Such a relief to hear these symptoms described. Matches me almost perfectly. I was never "hyper" because I was "conditioned" to be reserved as a kid. I had everything else though, plus the byproducts of going a life time undiagnosed not knowing what was wrong with me or why I was "screwing up" all the time, while I knew I wasn't stupid or lazy. lol. Started taking a medication treatment and drastically improved. But my sleep schedule is still very out of whack.
Thank you so much for making this video. Another funny thing is that before me and a doctor figured out I had ADHD by examine my patterns from childhood into adulthood,, I thought it was just an over diagnosed excuse for kids. Question I have is how do I get my life on track after so long?

Driven to Distraction is a great book that I can surely relate to. Another great book to read is called Queen of Distraction, which gives a view of women that struggle with ADHD. I was just diagnosed when I was 42 years old. I was diagnosed with ASD as a child and after further testing, I was reconfirmed of being on the Autism Spectrum along with ADHD. Even with medication, It is still a struggle.

Went to a GP today. I told her my condition. How I'm having a hard time at work. Always late and so often my boss said that I'm a daydreamer. I'm careless and inattentive. For me to slow down my mind I like to drive or ride fast. I can be so impulsive when driving. I had six road crashes and the latest one was last year. I'm kinda jealous seeing all my friends could drive and ride safely while I'm not.
I can't build my career or my own business coz I'll get easily swayed away from my goals. And there's this voices inside of me keep telling me I'm a loser. A failure.
Went to GP today and the feedback made me furious. I wanted to sort out my mental health problems but I was kicked out from the clinic.
It's okay if I'm not diagnosed with ADHD. At least let me talk to a psychiatrist. So that I can find what's wrong with me 😢

I stopped taking my Ritalin medication even though it worked due to it making me feel like a zombie and not eating. @20somethingsworld97 Před 4 lety +4

I think I might have this but I’m not really sure. My sleeping schedule is very questionable and it has been that way since I was kid. I always took forever to fall asleep as kid and as I got older I just only went to bed if I was tired (passing out from exhaustion haha😅). And that is usually around 3am-9am and then I have classes to attend around 1-2pm. I tried to fix my sleeping habits naturally and or with melatonin. Nothing really works unless I do an all-nighter. But anyways I’m pretty good at school because it wasn’t that challenging except I’m not good at (some science courses) math, like simple counting change, subtraction, ahh simple stuff like that. I’m not really the best at time management but with enough dedication I can get some sort of routine going. I always lose things like my glasses retainers(I’ve lost like 6 plus and retainers are pricey 300$) and Car keys. As a kid I was very hyper but whenever I interrupted the class, it was usually a joke and everyone would laugh so I never really got into too much trouble. However now being an “adult”, I can’t really hold down a job for longer than 3 months. It’s almost always comes down to my performance at the job (me thinking I’m inadequate because of all the mistakes I make) or just that I get bored of it and I’m itching to get out. I feel like that’s kinda fine but my biggest fear is since I’m not able to build the foundation of holding down a job that I like or don’t like, what if I’m never able to manage that. It’s also extremely hard to manage school and work plus friends. My home life, chores almost never get done unless I’m yelled at 😂. I once had the courage to go to the doctors and see if I had adhd, but this doctor just laughed at me and said “you don’t strike me as someone who has adhd” yeah and I felt sooo embarrassed because I honestly just sounded really Lazy. I try so hard to do good but I feel like I can only do that if I just focus on one thing at time. Meaning I just focus on school and I don’t hang out much with friends until exams are done etc and I most certainly do not bother having a job because I know how that will end. I realized if I want to do good in school I have to basically ignore everything else and just worry about that because everything else distracts me and causes me not to do well. If I bring my parents into this they will probably roast me to the core and say “I’m looking for excuses” and if I try explain myself (which I probably won’t be able to do properly) they won’t see my point and they’ll call me “argumentative”. If it wasn’t for religion or the way I was raised, I honestly would spend everyday being drunk/high. I stay away from that stuff because I know I won’t be able to stop.

Untreated? A series of behaviors which your industry has diagnosed as ADHD. You don’t know the cause of these behaviors and yet you “treat” them. You’ve taken things that have complex causes and lumped them into one defining category. That sounds like using a hammer for surgery. You guys need to do better - stop drugging people when causal factors are way more complex than your industry represents.
