Her given birth name is Chamundiswari Iyer. Chamundiswari is a very popular temple in karnataka. But that doesn't mean only kannadigas will use that name. Iyer could be anywhere from south.

      Mom's Brother is Mama, then his Wife is Maami. Marathi has many similarities with Tamil, like there is a Word called "Aththai" which is Father's Sister same in Marathi it is "Aththabei", Mother in Marathi is "Aae"&"Maae" actually in Early Tamil usage "Aae"&"Maae" (oldest words) means Mother. Same way in present Amma, Aatha, Thaae are been used, in present this "Aae" or "Aaya" usage we can see in some villages. Similarly I think "Thaae" also there in Marathi for Mom's Sister.

    These are the commonly used words by Tamilians
    Only certain Tamilians (often upper caste) use the word maami to refer to aunt

      Paatan can also mean grandfather. But its rarely used. It's mostly used by Tamil Brahmins today.
      Maami is very much common (mostly in North TN). Maami mostly refers to maternal uncle's wife.
