What a wonderful conversation. Rich Wingo was a warrior in an era when football was warfare. Even if you don’t remember his name, your remember his efforts. Those Bama teams from the 70s and 80s were beasts. True champions in life, regardless of the outcome on the field. Godly men who lived their lives with a humble belief that their deeds were infinitesimally small to their Christian testimony, obviously driven by a fear of coming up small in the eyes of Bear Bryant.
With all the bad we are enduring today, this is an edifying message that I so badly needed. Thank you.
My dad use to catch and haul chickens for John Hannah up in Albertville after his professional years and is a personal friend to him and his ways have never changed. How Rick is explaining him he still is that way to this day. And if guys wasn’t catching chickens the right way or fate enough he would get in there and show them how to do it

Coach Wingo would pray over our linebackers group before every single game. His intensity for the Lord was much greater than his intensity for football.
