I'm genuinely in tears right now only one minute in to this video. We are still without power and have the next street roof on top of our home and our neighbors home along with the electric wires but we lived through it here in Manatee / Sarasota area. We were supposed to get a direct hit at one point and if that would have happened we would have no home. So if I have to go a few more days without electricity then I'm perfectly okay with it because we have our lives and our communities are bonding together. There's so much love and support and no one is fighting each other based off race, religion, political views etc we all just want to help one another

On January 4, 2013, DeSantis voted against H.R. 41, a bill to "temporarily increase the borrowing authority of the Federal Emergency Management Agency for carrying out the National Flood Insurance Program."

In a June 2013 interview with the Florida Times-Union, DeSantis offered the following statement, when asked whether he would accept disaster relief in his own district:
"If a hurricane came here, I would want any relief plan to be fiscally responsible,” he said. “

My fiancée and I had to go out in the middle of this to dig a trench through our yard just to get the massive amounts of water away from the house. My family thinks I'm crazy for my upcoming move to FL. My husband, children and I were visiting during Ian and had been evacuated. This hurricane experience only made me want to live in FL even more seeing the selflessness and the sense of community. If this was on the west coast it would be every man for himself! We were born into that mentality...It comes natural to us...Everybody minds their own business until a disaster happens and then it's "Where am I needed"?...My Dr. appointment got cancelled for this week...The whole office is at the disaster zone and I'm fine with that...I'm busy with the relatives I brought home to stay with me, while their place gets their electricity restored...My two sons are at their place fixing and cleaning the place for them with the husband...I got the mom and two kids, here with me...We all can help, one way or the other and God is good...Much love and hoping you can move here and be forever happy...Blessings...

Here in St Petersburg, we are constantly seeing helicopters overhead, on their way from Clearwater to Lee and Sarasota Counties.
