Halos inaabot ng dalawang oras na paglalakad sa bundok at pagtawid ng labing anim na ilog ang pinagdadaanan ni Titser Annie Lee Masongsong, upang makapaturo lamang sa Labo Elementary School sa Sitio Labo, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro. Ang mga tinuturuan niya ay mga katutubong Mangyan na halos hindi na naabutan ng serbisyong pangedukasyon ng ating gobyerno. Tampok sa dokumentaryo ni Kara David ang sakripisyo ng tulad ni Titser Annie at ang pangarap ng mga batang Mangyan.

I always try to remember what Jesus said that " whatever you do to anyone (of these little ones) you do it unto me. so whatever we do to our fellow human being, if we do good Jesus is glad (happy) if we do bad Jesus is hurt!
I am a teacher for thirteen years in public elem school in Bulacan, however compared to Teacher Annie and Kristel I dont experience these kinds of quite harsh conditions. I found myself complaining about the scarcity of materials provided by the government. I salute both Teacher Annie and Kristel. This is the real meaning of heroism. Service at its highest form.

thank you GMA for including the english subtitles. there are many of us American Filipinos who only know basic everyday chismis Tagalog and don't know these other expressive words our elders never taught us. please keep posting the english subtitles on all of your current and newer mini documentaries. i know of many American Filipinos who's parents never taught them Tagalog/Pilipino and would love to learn about these kinds of stories. maraming po salamat

Di ko akalain na ang paksa ng dokyumentaryong ito ay nasa Oriental Mindoro kung saan malaki ang parte ng lugar na ito sa puso ko. Lumaki akong may maayos na pamilya, nakapag-aral sa isang pribadong paaralan at sa ngayon nag-aaral sa isang unibersidad. Alam kong mahirap ang buhay, may mga pagkakataon rin na dumating kami sa punto na wala na kaming magawa. Alam ko yung pakiramdam na kailangang makabili ng gamot pero di sasapat yung perang hawak mo. Sana yung mga opisyal, may kapangyarihan at may kakayanan sa buhay ay makatulong sa taong tunay na nangangailangan. Sana mapanood nila itong mga dokyumentaryong nagbibigay impormasyon sa reyalidad ng buhay. Saludo ako sainyo Titser Annie, Dina at sa bumubuo ng I-Witness.

One of the reason why I want to become a teacher. Para magturo sa mga taong katulad nila ngayon graduate na ako.. waiting nalang sa board exam at sana ibigay ni Lord yon sakin gusto kong magturo sa mga taong tulad nila kahit gaano kahirap, kalayo kakayanin ko maturuan lang sila kung sino man ang makabasa nito handa akong magturo kung saan may mga lugar na ganito na kailangan ng guro.

Pinakaayaw ko talagang mag take ng education na course but due to financial problem, pinursue ko nalang. After watching this documentary, I can say na I also want to experience teaching indigenous children and leave a legacy just like Teacher Annie did🤗. God bless my future endeavor!

I'll tell you what Teacher Annie, you have been the person I always wanted to be.
I first saw this episode of I-witness on TV during my senior year in highschool. Back then, hindi ko alam kung anong gusto kong gawin sa buhay ko. I was confused kung anong daan ba ang tatahakin ko pagkatapos ng highschool. Do I want to become a doctor? A lawyer? A nurse? An engineer? Because these jobs seem like the best way para yumaman agad sa bansang ito. And because I was so confused and undecided and not in the right mind, plus my parents believed that I was too young to make big decisions like choosing my own path, my parents chose what I will become in my stead. They wanted me to become a teacher.
I was so disappointed. I never wanted to become a teacher my whole life. Noong bata ako natatandaan ko na lagi akong estudyante and never the teacher sa mga teacher-teacheran naming mga laro. That's how uninterested I am in teaching profession.
I said, "alright i will do it" but in my mind I knew its not what I wanted to do. Yet during those times I really didn't know what it IS that I wanted to do and become.
Until I saw this episode of Teacher Annie sa TV. And after watching the whole episode, I remember looking at my mama and telling her, "Okay i'll become a teacher, pero hindi ako magtuturo sa siyudad Ma."
My mama obviously didn't like that. Saying its too dangerous. Na hindi yun ang ibig nilang sabihin when they told me na gusto nila akong maging teacher.
But I became decided. That night natulog ako na hindi nawala sa isip ko ang situation ng mga taong ito. I thought, "I'll do it, I'll become a teacher, but not for my parents but for these people." I wanted to become like Teacher Annie when I grow up.
This year graduate na po ako ng Bachelor of Elementary Education. It was never my intention na mag specialize sa course na ito but I made it and I have finished it. Thank God.
I wanted to share this quote I have heard from this favorite show of mine, "In the darkest times, HOPE is something you give yourself." And I am hoping that after this pandemic ay masimulan ko na ang mga natitirang steps ko towards this dream.
Teacher ANNIE and the co-teacher, if you're reading this, I am forever thankful for inspiring me. I am also grateful for your sacrifices para sa mga batang ito. Ngayon malinaw na sa akin kung ano ba talaga ang gustong kong gawin. Dati noong bata ako laging tinuturo sa school na tumulong lagi sa mga nangangailangan. Now I know kung paano ako makakatulong. I will help thru Teaching.

naranasan ko din dati mag hirap sa probinsya nung iniwan ako ng nanay ko sa pamilya niya sa samar. naliligo sa ilog na sabong bareta pang laba lang ang sabon para sa ulo at katawan. nag iigip ng tubig sa ilog at bundok para sa pang inom at pang hugas ng plato. pumasok sa school ng walang baon buong mag hapon. mag lako ng maja para lang may pera at kumain ng kanin ng kape lang ang ulam. nawala kaartehan ko sa katawan nung naranasan ko lahat yun. ngayon na naka graduate na ako ng college at may trabaho ng maayos minsan nakaka limutan ko na naranasan ko ang mag hirap ng ganung kalala noon. kaya pag nakaka nuod ako ng mga ganitong content bumabalik sa isipan ko na dapat mag pa salamat ako at wag masyadong mag hangad ng sobra kasi natatamasa ko naman na yung mga bagay na dati parang d ko kayang maabot
