Shonen did not do girls dirty that bad back in the days, it's just that shonen has a tons of echi but once you do have an anime with more of a serious tone you can see some girls really shine, like Evangelion, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho has one of the strongest characters in the series is a girl and unbeaten by the main characters at that, and you know what, please do Yu Yu Hakusho Next, it only has 72 episodes and is just a old gem from the same creator of Hunter vs Hunter and is such a good show that the creator of Naruto loved it and made Sasuke completly based on Hiei. There are tons of shonen with nice girls characters or main characters, i could name lots of them.

@@euqinemor To be fair, the genre of Shojo also exists. Those are shows aimed at young and teenage girls, as opposed to shonen, which are targeted toward young and teenage boys. At the time DragonBall originally started airing, shows like Urusei Yatsura were airing too, and were really popular. Pretty much every girl in that show was ridiculously overpowered (at least in the context of the show). I honestly want a reaction to that show, or at least the 2022 remake for a shorter time frame.
I think at some point, sensing ki replaced Goku's need to sense people with his sense of smell.

9:45 Which is what I tell people when they get to Namek and Goku just reads Krillin's mind. Literally every mentor Goku's ever had, outside of Granpa Gohan maybe, had some mind-reading or telepathy. And Goku learns Kamehameha just by seeing it once, so yeah, I believe he just sharingan'd that mind read.

Love the reaction. Try not to be too hard on Yamcha, in Z he is the comic relief but in this series he does step up quiet a bit and is a tough fighter.
Yamcha just had the bad luck of facing the strongest fighters in his semi-final fights.
Yeah, he will reach Krilin's level (and his peak relative to others) in the next tournament, against Tien. It's funny to remember that actually, Yamcha learned the kamehameha before Krilin.
Sadly after that, everything will go downward lol. While Krilin continued to improve even in DBZ to surpass even Tien.
Yamcha is legitimately strong all throughout Dragonball. He just had the unfortunate fate of being the series' Worf.

I have never understood companies that are bothered by people that make people want to watch their series . The funniest part is there are websites where i can stream every episode of this show

You're comparing apples to oranges, buddy.
Kai is an officially licensed retelling of DragonBall, created years after the original story came to an end, to try and bring the story to a new audience (and that audience can give the corporation money by buying merchandise). The company **OBVIOUSLY** supports the existence of DragonBall Z Kai.
The company is against reaction videos.
A reaction video is a video of another person watching the show, and sharing their reaction.
The company gets no money from the reaction video, and the company believes that people who watch the reaction video are not watching the actual show. They believe these people are watching reaction videos instead of spending their money on the actual show.
They don't realise that reaction videos are primarily watched by people who have already seen the show, and want to see how others react to it.
There's also tons of people who start watching the show because they watched reaction videos first, and decided to watch the actual show.
The number of people who watch a reaction video because they can't or won't watch the official version is so ridiculously low that it's not worth paying attention to.

Love Nam and the short plot that follows with his character arc. He is one of those memorable one off characters in animation.

Ah, the Yamacha disrespect is really hurtful. I always loved his character. It's a shame what they did to him in Z. He was a pretty cool character. He is the only character aside from Goku to have his own Character Song.
You're forgetting the tournament structure. In the next round Jackie Chun fights Krillin while Nam fights the winner of Giren and Goku. The only way Roshi can fight Goku is in the finals with Nam beaten by Goku.
Ranfan appears weak, but she did went through the preliminaries, likely not just by her "charm attacks". Power level wise she's about 4x Launch and 2/3 Chi-Chi.
Still Bulma is the strongest woman in the world, able to knock down Roshi with one punch. Chi-Chi is only second.
@@xenotypos lol both Bulma, Chi-Chi and Launch punched Roshi repeatedly but only Chichi not seen sending him flying. Then again as a warrior she the only one that can control her strength. odd though that even for comic relief she punched him through a tree, mountain or across Roshi's island?.
Don't be disappointed. Nam is an amazing character, and I wish he had more screen time later in the series.
I think the Goku smell thing wasn't used very much in Z because they had more useful abilities like sensing energy
When I watched this as a kid, I wanted Nam to win so bad for his back story hahaha.

I’m glad you got into watching OG Dragon Ball. I’ve been looking for an excuse to rewatch the series.
When i first saw this episode 2 years ago, I was just starting my DB journey, I hadn't seen DBZ, I knew there was a character called Piccolo but I had no idea who Piccolo actually was at that time, I was convinced that Nam was young Piccolo and was going to be a villain especially after the backstory lol.

Goku starts using his natural senses, but as he starts sensing energy and so on that kinda overshadows his smell and sight.
Also, Roshi's mind reading predates Goku doing the same to Krillin in the Frieza saga. xD

Yamcha’s signature throughout og DragonBall is the Wolf Fang Fist. Eventually he develops the two moves you know in Abridged which is his Spirit Ball (not Spirit Bomb) and the basic form of the Kamehameha.

Yeah, at the time Roshi was a big deal and respected by people. So yeah, poor Yamcha.
Wolf Fang Fist is basically a proto-Kaiyo Ken. It's a shame Toriyama didn't build on that when Yamcha trained with Kind Kai. Also, at this stage there are very few ki-based attacks (even Goku only has one), so it's not really a weakness that Yamcha only has the one.
It's interesting actually, how in the entirety of DB (not DBZ), Goku has very few attacks, mainly one (the Kamehameha, which he used with a lot of variations), and some secondary tricks. The gap is especially obvious (some DB spoilers ahead) against Tien, with his many (many) impressive techniques, while Goku is just counting on his skill and his multiple variations of kamehamehas. That's what (later) makes the moment he beats king Piccolo so magical, since for the first time he created his own new technique. That being said, even afterwards in the last tournament, Goku will still use very few techniques, compared with Piccolo's festival of various techniques.
It's probably something intentional from Toriyama.
@@xenotypos There is something to be said of DragonBall (Not DBZ or Super). It is still very grounded and actually has pretty reasonably realistic martial arts technique given the fact that it is a fantastical gag-comedy and martial arts epic. No crazy ki blasts or laser beams, but just old-fashioned punches and blocks.
Also, as far as Goku's "techniques," what about his Rock, Scissors 'n' Paper (or "Jan-ken") technique from Grandpa Gohan? Granted we don't see it fully used often, but Goku loved to use it all the time. A prime example is in season 1 against Yamcha when Goku throws "Rock" to counter Yamcha's punch then "Scissors" to poke him in the eyes. A bit non-sensical, but so was the show at that time, too.
And so begins a long standing tradition of Yamcha....
Also to be fair, his Wolf Fang Fist would work on any normal human. There was never a need to use a different move.
You're prediction about the tournament fights and how it concludes is an interesting one. We'll see.

Only final tournament of Dragon Ball onwards. Most remarkable thing about it is Yamcha with that the first Z-warrior inventing his own ki-attack!
To be fair to Ranfan, all's fair in love and war. If anyone is insulted, it should be all the fighters she beat using those tactics. They lost complete focus at the sight of a girl...just like Yamcha back when he was a desert bandit.
As dirty as the tactic is, if it works, it works. I mean, Bacterian was WAY dirtier.

If you think Naam is fighting Roshi directly after his first match, you might want to reexamine the tournament brackets...
That would mean Roshi would have to win two matches in a row and then fight a challenger who's only fought one match...

Master Roshi is so pathetic. A woman gets knocked out and instead of trying to get her help, he sexually harasses her. And this is the second time he's done this.🙄
I find it hilarious how wrong you are about the pairings. You are sort of right about some things, but Nam has to face the winner of Goku's fight, which is obviously going to be Goku, so Nam would have to go through Goku to get to Roshi/Chun. Good luck with that one!

Nah. It's not backstory, it's retcon to pivot the course of the series. Toriyama based OG DB on Journey to the West and Sun Wukong, not a space alien warrior.

@@cloudyriver Db has no link to Z. Beyond being from the same series and having the same characters. I would even say that almost no saga has a link with the previous one. It's an impromptu, reimagined. That doesn't make it bad.

@@davieswatts1 Sorry but your first two sentences are too big of a contradiction. DBZ is just new chapters of the same journey. Same thing with DBS. Btw. DB ended in 1989 and DBZ started in 1989. So it's similar to what Sailor Moon R was to Sailor Moon. Just because the journey wasn't planned from the get-go, doesn't mean it's a retcon.
