8:08 It's in 6/8. The hi hat cue is tricky but you can hear the waltz in the vocals.

It's spiritbox time and you know this man.

  • @bradkohl99
    @bradkohl99 Před 3 lety +6

The staticky sound at the beginning and between pt. 1 and the interlude that leads into pt. 2, as well as between pt.2 and 3 is a spiritbox, which is a device that flips through radio signals to transmit messages between the living and dead worlds. It’s not on Spotify as an individual song, but it’s on their only EP (which has 2 other songs on it as well).
It’s 3 individual songs, with the first two being in the same tuning, and the third in a seperate tuning (Bill switches to a different Dingwall 5 string bass and Mike switches from an Aristides 060 to an 070). The drummer in this video is Ryan, I believe (ex-Secret and Whisper, ex-Stutterfly), and the odd but cool sounding cymbal hit throughout the parts is a cymbal stack (it’s right beside his snare).
For some background of what the Mara Effect is, it’s either the goddess of death or nightmares, depending on what language and lore you look into. The parts are about one of Courtney’s friends who deals with frequent sleep paralysis, which is terrifying.

Cool. I’ve been trying to figure out to whom/what “the Mara” refers.

@@cyberia55 there’s a bunch of really cool horror movies and documentaries on it. Definitely worth checking out, especially the documentary “The Nightmare.” Scarier than most horror movies in the last 20 years.

I’ve watched this performance so many times it’s amazing. I feel like these 3 songs are really unique in their “catalogue” of songs. I hope in the future they create something reminiscent of this. Something different to react to: the offering by sleep token. I think you’ll like this one and the drummer in this band is an absolute beast. Oh and another spiritbox song you can react to is everything’s eventual it’s a beautiful song. Lots of layering similar to trust fall.

This video and live session - it's a masterpiece. Real art. Whenever I watch it, I get goosebumps all over my body and it always get's my eyes watery because of how good and atmospheric it is. And yea, you maybe guessed right: I watch it relatively often haha. They are masters at delivering their music directly to your heart. Everything about it is perfect and flawless and I can't find anything bad about it no matter how often I watch it. If you enjoy live sessions like that, man, you have to check out their most recent virtual live concert they did for SiriusXM, it's three parts and 6 songs in total. Aside from the fact that it's just absolutely amazing, it really shows how they've improved and evolved and made everything even better. I enjoyed your reaction and commenting as always! Cheers!

I absolutely love this song/trilogy of songs, it's up there as one of my favorites from them, especially in this live performance form. I think this is them at their closest to sounding like a traditional progressive metal band, but they still bring to it their unmistakable Spiritbox flair with the focus on horror and atmosphere. This gets *at least* one play per day for me. Loved your reaction too, Sean, you made interesting observations and had a great attention to detail throughout. Great job!

YEZZZ, finally.!! isn't it a fucking masterpiece.?? really glad you've been blown away by it - like almost everyone.
the three parts are off their first ep from 2017...they are only seperated by one short interlude between part 1 and part 2.
the three single video clips are still left to react to, bro..:)p

Such a great performance, I'm glad to see the reaction! Easily some of their best work. I'd consider them to be one entire song (including the interlude), even if they are separate tracks; they should be listened to all at once lol.
Agreed -- this trilogy is such a good example of their ability to structure songs + their overall songwriting ability.

The Mara effect Part 1,2 and 3 are from their first ep. The Ep essentially has these three songs spread out with soundscapes and other smaller songs dispersed through them. Listening to the ep from the start to finish is an experience. Like listening to the Dark Side of The Moon

This is what reactions videos are for - it was great to see your enjoyment and reactions through this trilogy.
It's like a "now you know how we feel" revelation - welcome to the club.
The studio version is a tad cleaner and tighter but listening to all 3 is the best way - I can't put Spritbox on shuffle because I need to listen to these 3 tracks in order!
I'm going to go listen to/watch it again now...
    Cheers Sean.

  • @JimboKM

You jumped into the deep end. The static noises between songs is less pronounced on the studio versions. Their use of some backing tracks makes this almost as good as the official versions.

Try out Seas on the Moon featuring Lena Scissorhands: "Sanctuary"
she`s the singer of "Infected Rain" and they all come from Moldovia, the small country next Ukraine. Actually the drummer is in both bands as far as I know. I don`t know if you`ve listened already to Infected Rain, it is also worth it. But this song "Sanctuary" is something special, catchy, djenty.

Check out the band “Unleash the Archers” - Awakening, another female fronted band and really talented set of musicians focused more into the genre of PowerMetal, so it’s more upbeat and less dark...has dark elements with the heavy vocal sections but the main vocalist (Britney Slays) is a true power house in the singing department. This Band is a must listen and a must react in my opinion. It won’t disappoint 👍🏻

    • @godscoldhands77

nooo, not this band.!! they are absolutely unlistenable - guitar doodle over guitar doodle over guitar doodle over vocal doodle. you'll need a date with your dentist after listening to UTA, i swear.!! their style is worse than melodic death metal, which is bad enough.!! brittney has a lot of talent and she's a very nice person, but her voice sounds terrible - even she's hitting notes perfectly. to me, UTA is aural torture at it's finest.:)
also, it's definitely not a must reaction, because every (i mean EVERY) reaction channel does this band - totally boring to see the 437th reaction to this band...but i assume it'll generate some clicks.

Leon Johnson 😉 i've heard a lot about me, but never ever that i don't know about real music. it's personal taste in the first place, if you're ok with this. i appreciate their talent and i tried hard to get into UTA, but damn...the amount of doodle is just pure terror to my ears. I prefer harsh noise over this melodic and harmonical overkill...🤷🏻‍♂️
