The FrSky X-Lite is a really amazing radio if you're looking for a small, game-controller style RC transmitter. But if you use pinch-grip on the sticks, forget about it.

I agree with Nj tech. Works great for pinchers. We're used to velociraptoring around switches and rotating thumb sockets.
Something to note is the gimbal screws do not relieve spring tension. They increase friction beyond what the spring can handle. This results in a notchy center stick and slight spring back at minimum and maximum stick deflection. Open it up and pull the spring then set tension.
Another note is the yaw and roll friction points cannot be adjusted. Throttle and pitch can be tight as a drum but yaw and roll will always be loosy goosy. This is less noticeable on the x-lite due to the reduced stick travel as compared to the taranis.
Vapers gonna vape
batteries gonna batterate
FrSky gonna frskate
JB gonna deliver us quality content and useful info as always
Joshua, thanks for all you do. Your channel has helped me more times than I can count as I was starting in FPV and now I link to your videos when other people ask questions. You're an extraordinary member of this community!
Joshua, ive been a long time RC hobbyist, I just wanted to say thank you for the time and energy you put in to these videos, with your help has made some of the newer technology easier to use and understand, and hobby / sport just that much more enjoyable. keep up the great work!!
Just getting into fpv. Would love to start with a controller and simulator! Ive been addicted to your videos!
Josh, i've been pinching for over 20 years, i could not find this more comfortable to hold or fly with. I have installed the longer stick ends that are now available which definitely a help, but to say 100% for thumbers is just not fair to say! Since making my video on this exact topic, many have come forward (pinchers) also in accord with my feeling on this. Granted it wont work for some like yourself, but it really shouldn't be discounted like this as 100%! In with the long stick kit also comes a neck strap brace which also works great :)
I pinch but not with my index fingertip, this is by far the most comfortable radio I've used so far.
@@defyent After one month of use, count me as comfortable pincher on the X-Lite. I initially planned to use it with small models, I ended up shelving my X9 forever.
VERY helpful information, Gentlemen! SOLD!!!
@@mikeoleksa update: I'm loving the X.Lite after one year (I fly mostly slope soaring gliders - don'think it's less demanding than quads, they are FAST). So sad Frsky screwed up with the ACCESS BS, otherwise I would have upgraded to the S or Pro version because the two buttons in the back are very handy for launch mode on DLGs.
For indoor whoops I have the arm switch on the three position switch on the left, armed when it's in the middle position, so it will disarm whichever way you flip it. Down trim from the D-pad used as prearm, left for beeper and right for turtle mode. I 3D printed custom sticks which are 10mm taller than the stock ones and optimized for pinching.
Meanwhile, I sold the X9.
Works great for pinching, Nick Burns gets by fine hahaha.
Cheers
Thanks for this and every other video that you have done. I’m new to the hobby and have been spending ALOT of time scouring CZcams for information. I usually make my way towards your videos, and they have broadened my outlook immensely! I may have even learned something!
Thanks again
Hi Joshua. I just want to say thank you for what you do, this hobby would certainly not be the same without you. I have learned so much from you. I enjoy building and tuning just as much as flying, and your videos make both even better.
Thank you, and keep up the great work!
PS, your videos must be too short, whenever they're finished, I still want more!!
I believe you meant 18500 not 1855....correct?
☝🏼
Joshua you are the most valuable asset to the fpv community!!!
Never forget that.. we love what you do....keep it coming...
Awesome stuff as always! Thanks for all the info you give us here, been watching heaps of your videos and stuff you do with rotor riot! Keen em coming!

Thanks for the chance to win this X-Lite Transmitter and R-9 receiver Joshua! I always check your site to see what is new. Keep up the great work! Bob
I like your smiles on this vid ! Thanks if you choose me for this givaway :-) And thanks for all that you bring to this hobby.
Great honest review, I liked the other one where you upgraded OpenTX, your channel has helped me out a few times. Cheers, Anthony.
Thanks for this hornest review. I was new in fpv flying and close to buy a x7s but now i will go for this one for my first radio controller.
Greetings from Germany and stay like you are :)
Very helpful video, Joshua! Always awesome to see new FrSky gear.
kudos for being the only reviewer that mentioned stick tension adjustments!
I’ve been eyeballing this great transmitter! Thank you for being such a wealth of information
Just getting into fpv and I’m loving it! I’ve wanted to get the x-lite since it came out but since I already have a radio I didn’t see a good reason to buy a new one already. Looking forward to using the x-lite thought!
Your killing it Josh! Almost 2 to 3 videos a day it seems like. Thank you again.
Thanks for spending the time to do a proper review! We appreciate your hard work!
does it come with a charger for those batteries?? or should I spend the extra to get the pro that can plug in and charge???
Nice review J! Didn't expect it to have so many hardware upgrades from the X7/9, looks good
Thanks for the awesome review. I enjoy your videos. Do the sticks raise and lower? I like mine a little higher than normal.
Nice video. I have been wanting to try out this radio. Thanks for the review :)
Love how compact these are. Perfect for throwing in a backpack with a quad.
Thanks for joining us in Puerto Rico this weekend. We enjoyed flying with you guys! I am a thumb-er and I would love to win the X-Lite!
Controller looks exactly what I’m looking for! Love the videos!
2 years later and I still love my xlite pro. Best of all for this thumber
I agree JB. I sanded down my sticks also to sit much lower
Thanks for all the great videos, I'm just getting into quads so I have been learning a lot.
As a thumber, I can really appreciate this style of transmitter. Thanks for always giving your honest opinion on products and not what they want you to say.
Hi from Norway.. love your videos. You and your videos have been so helpful since i started with drone racing/freestyle.this is a great hobby and I love it.just wish the community was i little bigger in Noway seems like there is more event's and meet ups in USA. Keep up the good work.
Love your reviews Joshua. I am new to the hobby and have been trying to decide on a transmitter. After this, I am settled on the x-lite. Thank you for the thorough review! Fingers (not thumbs) crossed for the give-away.
Really good to know about the pinching. Another great video
Getting that radio for my wife would be awesome! Thanks for the review!
Thank you for the review, I am definately considering buying this radio as I am a thumber and its so convenient to take anywhere!
Great review! I have one and love it. Glad to hear about your opinion on the range of the internal antenna.
I want one! Funny vid...enjoyed watching your expressive hands.
Thanks for all your videos Joshua, and thanks for your giveaways ;) I'm a french "pilote" and I learn how to fly with your tutorials on FPV Freerider :)
Thank you for the review.... really thinking about getting it... love your input in all the products you review
Saw your video on throttle down, but on my x lite seems my hovers are above mid throttle. Is there a way to adjust the xlite to get my hover at mid point? Have calibrated radio a few times but still way to high to hover. Had no issues with my qx7. Thank you for your time.
My thumbs would love to try this.. Thanks for all you do.
Joshua thank you again for another great review. Count me in for this!
I'm glad to hear this turned out to be a nice radio. I was really thinking about picking one to make traveling around with a tinywhoop easier but I wanted to see more reviews on it. I always feel weird flying a tiny quad with a giant radio :). As always thank you for the video.
Love your videos, keep up the good work! Would love to try one of these!
loving your reviews, lotsa thumbs up for you JB!
Really would love to try this radio, i'm pretty used to a gaming controller, guessing this would be alot better than my current T8SG :)
... those batteries though!
cheers!
Awesome controller. You make it so difficult to decide which to buy when the opportunity arises But at least we have the knowledge to make educated decisions. Thank you for making the video!!!!
Here is my one comment. It's a really nice comment. I tried this radio yesterday at the local flying spot. a new flyer had a vortex and this radio. Excellent beginner starter kit! Great radio. If I don't win I'll buy one down the line.
Nice honest review. As I just bought a QX7 I can't justify buying this now. But, it would be great to get the free one. Fingers crossed that I am selected.
Your videos have been the best for a beginner like me. Thank you so much!
Nice radio and good review. Your channel is the best!
Nice review really... I am thinking of getting one actually. Keep up the good work man!
Just getting back into this hobby again after a yearlong break and there's so many things I want to buy now, this transmitter is one of them.
Thank you so much for all your help and videos!!!
I fly thumbs with the qx7, but have started TRYING to learn hybrid pinching. Any benefits to using pinch over thumbs? I get there is a precision aspect about pinching, but as a long time gamer, could I or others have just as good if not better precision thumbing, or is it really that big of a difference for the average fpv’er
Thank you very much for this review. My brother wants to get into RC (quads, specifically) and I've been wondering if this radio with its form factor might be the best choice for him as he has zero hours on any transmitter, but hundreds of hours on an Xbox controller. As always, I appreciate all the time and effort (and honesty) that you put into your channel!
Thanks for the great review! I always look forward to your videos :)
I got to try this radio out. The small form factor is definitely a plus.
I learn something new thanks to you, nice vid JB
I am a thumber and am always worried about breaking my antenna tks for everything, you have helped me so much.
Been pinching square boxes for 35 years. I love this transmitter just feels nice in the hand! I use it for all my quads.
Thanks for the review. I'm looking at trying the X-Lite since I like gaming.
Totally fair review, imo. I just started getting into fpv and chose this as my first “real” radio. Only used it in the sims so far, but it’s been great. Btw thanks for the set up video.
Josh! FrSky =
If i got this i would give it too my little bro. Been trying to get him into fpv but funds are a little tight. You rock!
I like the look of it and the added R9 what a bonus. Good luck everyone.
I grabbed this radio when it was a pre order, so I basically bought it before any reviews had even come out. I was not disappointed! It was a little different than what I was used to, but I love it. Great size, build quality, and what are limitations to others are benefits for me, having smaller hands.
Thanks for the review... I wasn't sure if I should get one but thats to your review ive made up my mind. Im gona give it a shot!
This is looking like a great radio to me and my thumbing way. Thanks for the review Joshua.
Thank you for this review JB, a very interesting product that I would love to test on my own ;)
Very generous, Joshua! Thanks for the chance!
Nice radio and nice review. Thanks Joshua!
Lol...I smile all the way through each and every video of yours...so informative and fun to watch...you know your famous right...lol..thx Josh p.s. I'd love to use that new Frsky Trans.
Really like it Josh, I'd really like a Taranis I'm stuck with a 9xr till I can afford a better tx. Your videos are great, thanks for all the help and keep it up.
I just got mine this week. I absolutely love the form factor. I haven't flown on it yet, other than hovering indoors (testing different models I've added). I can't wait to take it out to the field and see how it feels after a few flights. I would love to put my name in for the R9M module.
Thanks for the opportunity to win. Thanks for all you do for the hobby.
I haven't solidified whether I am a pincher or thumber. I keep switching back and forth but thumb a bit more. Could this be the radio for me?
Nice review, I wonder though what you think about not being able to use crossfire modules ? And I believe it doesn't have a video receiver antena like the TBS tango ?
Sure do love your giveaways! Can you see me jumping up and down in the crowd? Oh well, thanks for your great channel!
Will this make me switch from (a 5 year old) Futaba to Open-TX?
Really interested in this, especially at the price. Thanks for the review!
This looks great for micro / whooping! Easy to keep in your bag for spontaneous indoor flying.
Thanks Joshua for this great review of the X-Lite
always like and enjoy your videos,i have learned alot from you keep up the good work
This Radio looks great, thank you for all your work.
Very good review. As a thumb-er this will be my next radio!
Does the X lite S model work with all frsky receivers aswell?
I know the pro is specific.
I've been looking for another thumb game controller style radio since my purchase of the Turnigy, I found the range on my Turnigy to be horrible. I'm afraid to fly around anyting and lose connection. Love the channel and all you do! Keep at it 👊
Anyone know what the travel distance is diagonally at full deflection of these gimbals? Or are these the standard taranis gimbals in a smaller case?
Thanks for the information. Looks like a great radio!
Hi I'm getting a ISDT charger but I am not sure where to get it from? I can get it from China through Amazon or I can get it from a European RC shop. It's easier to get it from Amazon (I have other stuff and shipping is good but I will probably get better support from a European shop). Do ISDT chargers have issues or fail?
Thanks for the great video! I have been on the fence about this one. I have been trying to teach my self pinch but usually revert back to thumbs on my x7. So I think I would like this one, since it would be asier then the x7 with thumbs. However the batteries throw me. I love my 2 cell lipo in the x7 that I never have to charge.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the insightful review as usual Joshua, I learned something today.... and this is my entry for the give away.. happy flying
Thanks Josh! Awesome review as always.
Can I use 2 thumbs without disqualification ? Tried to force myself pinching 10 years ago and never worked for me.
X-lite is great! Nice to see them trying out this form factor.
