Tool-free indeed. But it is hard to slide open. If your thumbs and fingers do not work, try both palms of your hands and maybe hands against thighs for more leverage.
I don't trust cases where you have to slide in the HDD diagonally and then click it in place permanently because there's no way to remove it except for lifting it and risking the connector to break if you lift it up too far. I can just lay my HDD flat and slide it in my laptop safely, but these stupid HDD enclosures want to make everything fit super tightly that they risk breaking connectors. Unless these things only work for the thinnest HDDs. 7 mm, not 9mm. But 2.5 inch HDDs most are probably 9mm. I'm not risking damaging my HDD and all the data on it by sliding it in there diagonally and hoping the pins don't scrape against the pins of the enclosure or break completely.
The first one did not work for me. I just had the SSD in my old system and it worked fine. Tried both my new computer and my laptop, but neither would recognize the driver. Going to try a replacement from Amazon. Will review on Amazon if the second fails or works.
I just bought this for my 1tb Xbox sea gate. It connects fine and a blue light comes on when I plug it into my Xbox, but the Xbox does not recognize it at all. There is 0 connection. I have 3 of the same cords to and none of them make a difference. It also did not work when we connected it to a computer. Now recognition either. Currently I am unable to use this product and I am blocked from using all the games in my hard drive. What can I do to fix this?
Mine was working fine until I attached it to one particular HD. At that point it whirled up, then turned off. After that, it did the same with every HD.

Does this handle heat from hard drives well? My HDDs need a "breathing hole".

LOL I have the thicker type. (4tb pulled from a seagate portable backup plus). Do you carry one for this type?
