Yes, I agree with you, this upside down style should become more prevalent, esp. as it keeps sand, salt water, etc. out of the ball, as the open end is facing down, so gravity is helping you, also you don't jam your fingers in the stem area, as much, as the larger & easier to grip section is on top and is also better for people with arthritis, or other physical challange with their hands, to grip the head.

Sand has nothing to do with it. The fact the pan should be above the ball, anything else is nonsense.

good video, but a correction, there has been other earlier upside down ball heads, Notably from Arca-Swiss, their P0 series.
