I love how close they got Cubot to his game appearance using existing parts.
This was the one set from the theme I knew I wanted the most when the images were revealed. I got it, and I'm very happy with it
The Lime Green is actually a very cute visual reference; it's similar to shades that would be used to represent the Yellow in shadow on the original spritework.
There’s only one ring included because that’s that one ring you always have during a boss fight that you keep losing and picking up so you don’t die. 😂😂😂
The one-ring is actually one more ring than you'd get in the actual boss fight from the game lol. I'm surprised they even bothered with the one.
So glad to see Woody's legs getting more reuse than the Avatar stuff, and finally in a (mostly) black!
Still annoyed they didn't use them for Jack Skellington in the Disney minifig series

Cubot seems like a simple bonus since they were able to make a roughly accurate build for him with existing parts - the battle droid body gives him a frame that’s inaccurate to how spindly he is in-game, but the parts usage for the head is A+
2:57 the lime green is most likely a reference Sonic Generations where the robot had emerald green and black on the underside
The way they made a mech with a weak point that exposes it's power source is such a *chef's kiss* play feature, I really hope they do more eggman mechs in the future!
The only thing that bothers me about this set is that the spikes on the left arm are shown spinning on the box, but when you build it it's clear that that is just not possible, which is odd...
The lime green is somewhat accurate to how the death egg robot looks in sonic generations (which is the design this set is the closest to)
I was getting suspicious that the dome wouldn’t fully close with Eggman inside, since from what I could tell none of the promotional photos showed that. Thanks for confirming that it does.
People said I would never need an entire PAB cup of trans-red studs.
This set gives that cup in the basement all the purpose now.

Cubot isn't just any Eggman robot (or badnik as they're known officially), he's one of Eggman's goons who he keeps by his side at all times
I don't know why, but the red, gray, lime and yellow colour scheme gives me LEGO Atlantis Undersea Explorer vibes
the lime green on the death egg robot is there because the death egg robot featured in sonic generations has greeen techy detailing in those places

Happy to see this is as good as I'd hoped, I would have loved this as a kid, so glad kids today are getting these. Play pattern seems much more ideal for Lego than the Mario stuff, great review Jang!
3:00 Those printed round 2x2s... those are just the "I"-key from the typewriter-set, aren't they? Good repurpose.
That's a shame that it comes with regular Sonic instead of Super Sonic, really odd choice there in my opinion. Also the lime green is only slightly off, because there were green energy line things going through that area in Sonic Generations, but it was a daker green than that and, again, they were kinda like fuel lines or something, not big blocks of green like that. And the small yellow robot is also called Cubot (Cause he's shaped like a cube, hardy har lol.) He's usually seen along Orbot (who is, surprise surprise, shaped like an orb) so it's odd they aren't both included.
I would have liked to see a Super Sonic minifigure at some point, but this doesn't seem like the right set for it. You can't fight the Death Egg Robot as Super Sonic in Sonic 2 or Sonic Generations (which is where this design gets more of its inspiration from). It'd only serve as a loose reference to the second Sonic movie, but this set is based on the games, not the films.
I would bet Super Sonic is being saved for specific sets. They want people to anticipate a Super Sonic release and support the sets so a Super Sonic will be released down the road.
@@faroffgrace5490 He fights it as Super Sonic in Sonic 3&K, and besides, this is the only real 'boss' set, if it was gonna come in any set it would make sense to be in this one

I’m also not a huge sonic guy, I’ve only seen the movies (though I really liked them, especially the second one). Still felt interested in picking up this set, it looks great and it’s an easy way to get both the main hero and villain

I got this set a couple of days ago along with another set. I was mostly after the action figures, but I did build up this set and have it displayed on a shelf.
Do you think swapping the trans black dome with a tan dome would simulate that flesh color on the original mech? I’m pretty that’s available in that color.
Sonic fan here, I think the trans-black dome works so much better to represent the mech from the original Sonic 2. In that game the top dome only had a tiny bit of flesh on the face, the rest was a light gray.
I guess I was thinking more of Sonic Generations’ version which had a bit more of flesh color to it. Definitely something that could be modded though.
I saw a demonstration of the largest set of this wave with the loop and I was pleasantly surprised with how well the play feature worked and how large the set was.
The lime green represents the weak spot of the robot from the game it first appeared in. I would’ve loved the robot to have extendable arms but I guess I’ll have to MOC that into it…
I kinda wish I could get this without the Sonic launching pad thing. It’s a nice play feature though, which is good.
My kid's gonna love this. He's 4 and loves the Netflix series, Sonic boom. Which has episodes where Dr.Eggman uses this robot
I like the look of this set and the play features look fun. My only criticism is I wish eggman’s cockpit could detach like in the games. Does this robot specifically not do that in game? I can’t recall
in most depictions, namely sonic 2 where it originated, the cockpit doesn't detach. it's the final boss in that game, so sonic just blows it up entirely.
The eggman mech in the green hill zone loop set detatches between the legs and the cockpit

Pleasantly surprised by this set! Might pick it up...wouldve still loved to have seen a bigger build for the tails plane set tho...would've loved to have seen that biplane built up a bit more.

Aah! Good old Sonic! Been a fan for decades of this amazing Hedgehog! The videos games were amazing to play with! And now in Lego form! I want to say I want to get all the Sonic sets from this wave (and I hear there will be another wave coming in 2024 featuring Shadow, Knuckles and Super Sonic, we'll see that later), love the launcher and the Sonic attack, very well done and fun too! Can't wait to get this set, nostalgia factor very high for me!

Cool as this is, I still prefer the original Sonic minifigure. The eyes are way too big on the new one, and I don't like the lighter shade of blue.
Not really interested in the rest of the set, but I do kinda want that Eggman. He's going for an insane 20 bucks on bricklink though, so idk.

Lifelong Sonic fan, love this set, and I agree that Sonic Team probably took some cues from Zeon back in '92.
I'm a big fan of Sonic and I have the Ideas set already. The Death Egg robot is definitely iconic and it's great to have in LEGO form.
The Robotnik here is done better. I wonder if he will fit into the hovercraft thing from the other set.
At only $60 this is not bad and definitely managable.
I doubt I will use the action feature much, but I'm glad it works well.
It's too bad ahout the printing on Sonic's chest, but other than that, this is great!

I somehow didn't realize this was $60 USD - This is actually really well priced for what you get imo
Normally I don't like it when Sega uses the Death Egg robot over and over again in games (though how it's used in Mania is one exception I do like), but when I saw this, I though this is one I'm going to get.
The build feels substantial, which is good since this machine is an endgame boss. Minus the bits mentioned on the dome and the lack of seemingly military-based emblem on the shoulders (doesn't match with any I've seen at the moment) It does look and feel the part. The only nitpick I have is that there are no mini bomber bots (in-game, two of these would eject from the top of the jet pack, if you manage to get behind the robot itself) for it. BUt I do like how they used the launch and shield mechanism to "beat" the cage out of the robot's chassis.
Oh man, this takes me back to my Sega Genesis days! What a fun looking set!
That mech is an absolute chonker and I love it.
Those long legs really need to be used on x-men sentinels and guardians 1 groot.

If any parent is reading and wants an even cheaper set that has the speed cube action feature, the 76990 set is almost half the price as this set.
I absiolutely agree - this is a fun set. I paid 49 euros in germany for it and that feels very nice value. The pricing of the sonic sets is very weird, some have a higher us price compared to the euro price and some are lower. I don't think even Lego knows why...

I really didn’t like the brick built Robotnik in that first sonic set. I am happy to see an actual figure of him now.
I looked at the original and the body and legs are very well done. The head is pretty bad. I don't know why they chose a translucent dome instead of building a head. That would have looked better and been more faithful to the source material.
Love the build, got it with the tornado to get the bang for my buck.
I love this new series for sonic now we need to get lego to do minifigure super Mario sets I would also love to get crash bandicoot as well

As an old-school Sonic fan... this is kind of lackluster. As a Lego fan... it's not bad. Definitely will be keeping an eye for mocs of it before I make the purchase.

Can you point to your source and/or describe in detail the experience this comment is based upon? Per Bricklink, Battle Droid Torso item no. 30375, unprinted, total sets 190. Sets with it in yellow: 6.
In terms of the exposed green; It's not really accurate to the specific object this represents, but I'm ok with that because green highlights are a common occurence in eggman's tech, it gives me good e102γ vibes!

Not a fan of this overall theme, but this set and the Tornado look great. Not a fan of the dome piece though, looks off compared to the games.

It's so absurd that the original Lego Ideas set featured the Death Egg Robot but somehow they thought it was a good idea to scrap it, only to reintroduce it now but much worse.

Shame Sonic looks ridiculous with a minifig body.
Quedtion: if you get a minifigure with such bad printing... can you contact Lego to ask for a new one? Or does that only works with missing pices? Just realy curios sbout that.
I was able to get a replacement for a misaligned print on Rocket Racer’s helmet but I don’t think they’ll replace whole figs, especially when it’s a “correct” bad print
This is the only one I think many AFOLs will be interested in. Buy a Tails off of Bricklink and boom: instant Sonic display.

I'm not fan how they did eggman though. IMO the head should be a seperate piece or Lego head with glasses print and "glasses and mustache addon
