Water and Abandoned Metal Mines projects in North Pennines

  • A number of projects to tackle the water pollution caused by historical metal mining have already been completed in the North Pennines - and more are planned.
    This important work is part of the Water and Abandoned Metal Mines (WAMM) programme, a partnership between the Environment Agency (EA) and the Coal Authority, funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the North East Local Enterprise Partnership.

    all very well dealing with small scale polution from historical sources, what about the polution that is happening every day from water treatment works that have not been upgraded for decades that are polluting streams rivers and lakes including windermere

    Yes, because you used loose shale at this site, it's quite badly collapsed now, useless.

    Why aren’t we pumping this water up through extraction.. we are a battery dependant world..so zinc & cadmium are saleable products
    These mines though flooded, could possibly still contribute to a kind of recycling, .. just thinking out loud 🤔
