- / prognotfrog Completely unknown band from Zambia, privately pressed on a small local label, this 5 piece electric band plays a strong electric African underground style. Tons of wah wah-fuzz guitar in every track, African style beats and vocals and all original song. If bands from Nigeria such as Blo and Ofege and bands from Zambia such as Rikki Ililonga and Chrissy Zebby are all traveling on the psychedelic highway with 100 mph the Witch overtakes them with 120. On the cover we can read: If you're feeling depressed, low, disturbed, out-of-sorts, sad, frustrated or widely demented, then folks, we suggest you seek out a quiet place, indulge in some soothing meditation and cut away that headache by listening to this inspiration album.(review taken from earrational) thanks to Piotr for the rip. prognotfrog.blogspot.com/2006/...
- Chris Mbewe (lead guitar, vocals, acoustic guitar)
- John Muma (rhythm guitar, vocals)
- Gedeon Mulenga (bass)
- Boidi Sinkala (drums)
- Emanyeo Jagari Chanda (vocals, cowbells, marracas) - Hudba
First album I ever bought in 1976 during my first year at high school. When I listen to these guys I grow goose pimples and get filled with nostalgia! For those who do not know Jagari Chanda was on lead vocals, John 'Music' Muma on the wah wah guitar, Chris Mbewe on lead guiter, Gideon Mulenga on bass, Boyd Sinkala played drums. Thank you Witch band for making the 70s so interesting. The album Lazy Bones showed you were simply ahead of your time.
I'm here in America like this is crazy. I'm so grateful to those that create channels that showcase my dad and his colleagues music as Americans have no idea. Blessed Be 🌛🌝🌜
THATS YOUR DAD
What was unique about the Witch Band was their originality in their songs. Well written lyrics which just leave you to your own imagination. Whoever wrote their songs did a hellova job. What is most touching is these are guys who never went to school to study how to play these instruments. Whatever they played was all self-taught nothing like 'when I was kid mama used to drop me for piano or guitar lessons at a certain house to learn the instrument'. Riding the train to and from boarding school was fun because we truly jammed to this music.
This shows that people can overcome dire situations to create great things. This is a mix of Link Wray, Jimi Hendrix, Sabbath, James Brown, The Rolling Stones, MC5, The Stooges. This could almost be a Detroit band. Stuart MacConie should play this on The Freak Zone, it's so brilliant that you should drop Acid to it.
This should be more famous than any pop star these days. This music is too good! Love Witch
Growing up watching these guys on the Copperbelt in the 70s was really something. They were the best band in Zambia. Their shows however attracted quite a rowdy crowd but it was worth it!!
These guys have real talent, love the songs and the sound...especially the guitar work.
Zambian rock musicians had it locked down in the 70's. These tracks are insane!! There aren't many bands these days that can switch tempos mid song so effortlessly.
literally

This is very good and has a sort of early Can vibe to it...

Cannot remember all the words but words for Black Tears went as follows:
We all in the melting ship
Heading for planet venus
Waiting for the ship to melt anyday
Tears falling from me like rain
The Stars staring at you
Like...
The sustained heaven swings
Like they never did before
B'cos of the eyes venus has
Makes it hard for us to love
When we look into your eyes
Our vision is blurred
Singing our salvation song
Our joy of survival of struggling
.....
You never allow us to drop no tears
.....
You say black tears is magic
That is our kind of living
In our mothers world
ho
Mmm mmm mmm mmm
Aah aah aah
Strange dream:
Drifting on the Nile with Marian
In a small boat feeling free
Searching for a place at the show to hide my face
And life was so nice
Sat down on a mountain
Seeing water run
And we saw snails being caught
All of a sudden the devil kissed my face
Oo...she was...
where are you going leaving me alone?
Come and get me out of this place
....
Singing our salvation song
Our joy of survival of struggling
*Your blasphemy just too great*
You never allow us to drop no tears
You say black tears is magic
That is our kind of living
In our mothers world
