    Hello! I'm so excited to share this new series with you. I've been pulling all nighters this week getting everything edited and ready for you :) Since this is coming out at a different time than my usual uploads, I'd be especially grateful if you'd like to do any of the things the algorithm craves (likes, comments, shares, watchtime, etc.)! Thank you so much! What are some of your favorite color mixes from this trio? Did you prefer one kangaroo over the other? What do these colors inspire you to paint? Let us know!

      I found the color thumbnails extremely useful... going through the process and showing the reality of painting something once, then three more times just to set up for the second painting... that's real. It's amazing and quick to be able to do studies on a computer! So handy for value studies too. Another option is to take a scan and make copies. ❤

    The finished eye was very reminiscent of Arleesha's rainbow skin and I love it so much. Watching you layer the colours reminded me why I _love_ transparent mediums, you really can't create the same effect with opaque mediums and I think it's what makes watercolour so special.

    This is fabulous, Denise!! Thank you for sharing this discussion. I love a limited palette, and your choice here is similar to the Yellow Ochre/Burnt Sienna/Prussian Blue triad which I fondly call the “master’s palette.” You really showcase these colors beautifully and make me really want to work with it. And that’s such a good thing!

    Oh man, I LOVE this colour combo!! I've played with it before myself and find it very comforting somehow. Seeing the eye study as well was like a little wake-up. I haven't properly sat down and painted in... Well, a long time. Which is how you start to forget things. But seeing you lay down those washes, adding nuance in the depths and hues with each layer, made my brain go "oh, that's right. That's how you do that." It was really nice. Anyway, what a wonderfully full video. Swatches, studies and paintings all in one!! Thank you for this wonderful video and all the creativity and work you've poured into it. Can't wait to see more in this series, I've always adored limited palette videos/works 💖💖💖

    This video was really lovely and I also found it impressive how many different colors you were able to mix. I love seeing colorful portraits and animals, so seeing the eye study (a bit of an unusual subject on your channel) was a real treat. The second kangaroo is my favorite. I love the background behind the Roo's shoulders where the 3 colors meet. I gotta check my palette to see if I have similar paints to try out this limited palette.

    I am really happy that you are demonstrating just how much people can do with a limited palette. I think that people can learn a lot more about colors and mixing from using a limited palette. I was fortunate enough to have taken a color theory class with a gentleman named William Libby and he assigned us various exercises with limited palettes (always our choices.)
    Please, please DO discuss what digital work you are doing. These days, most of my work is digital and I have found it to be a very versatile way to work (Procreate on an iPad Pro.) However, nothing replaces the sheer joy of using watercolor and gouache.

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Před 4 měsíci

      I resisted digital for sooo long. However, it's absolutely changed my process for the better, even for my traditional work! I'm a much more confident sketcher digitally since there's so much more freedom, and I've even been able to take that mental approach to my physical sketches too. I'm smitten! 🥰

    This palette is WAY too gorgeous for me to actually have none of these colors! I've definitely got to try this with my closest approximants soon. I quite liked both of your kangaroos but definitely agree with your analysis of your favorite parts of each. Those pesky thoughts of what it "should" look like are definitely a struggle, but you did some fantastic work here.

    @reneaclark7689 Před 4 měsíci +1

    I absolutely love this combo, so pretty. I like both paintings, but the first is my favorite of the two. That blue under the second is great, and I think a bit more organic mixing of the pure colors on the paper would have been nice on the first one.
    Love this series!

    Totally love the series already! I also love that we can see your honest tries! The comparison of the two versions was incredibly insightful. One thing I like to see early in the swatching is how dark can I go when mixing all three. Like you mention the relative colour is a lot of fun to play with. But I often have trouble seeing what the darkest is before swatching so I can work the other values around it.

    What a beautiful limited palette. I loved seeing all the layers painted in on the eye. I tend to be heavy handed with watercolor and I don't do enough layering.

    Really enjoyed this video! Since I (a) love using sedimentary and opaque pigments and (b) love Da Vinci paints (they're my main WC brand now) and (c) have been experimenting with different Triad palettes this week (just for the challenge; I'll never give up my split primary palette), this demo was made for me! I especially liked the eye demo. Oh, and those also happen to be 3 of my favorite Da Vinci pigments. BTW, ironically, although the Casaneo was problematic for you due to its less-pointy tip, you convinced me to buy some to try, as I dislike the super-pointy brushes that are in vogue these days, and had been really missing the rounded-tip sable "rounds" that were the rule up until the early 2000's. I treasure my old sable rounds, and wish I'd hung onto my old ox-hair ones, too. Hope to see more demo's like this one!

    I'm pretty new to watercolor, just trying to jam it in during my lunch breaks the past couple of years and I had never actually hadn't even considered the possibility of digital mock-ups for painting layers and planning it out. I would love to watch a quick lesson on it sometime. Thanks!

      I didn't have a drawing tablet until pretty recently so it definitely wasn't an option when I first started out. I'm still a baby when it comes to knowing how to use it properly, but so far it's been incredibly helpful.
      If my plans for the next limited palette video works out, I've already started recording the digital prep process, so I'll be sure to include it (as long as I can pull off the actual painting 😆)!

    I love the colors you chose, and they fit in perfectly with the subject. Still trying to figure out how you manage to replace dulled shadows with blue, because it's lovely.

    Great that you told us what paper and brush you used at the beginning of the eye painting, but looks like you also used at least one other brush - please let us know all supplies you used. Thanks!

      They're all in the description and it's mentioned later in the video when I use it again for a longer stretch of time. If I'm using a solid black brush, it's always a Silver Black Velvet.

    Ooh, love these colors! I have the single pigment Naples yellow and mostly use it as a mixer for granulation, but wow! Love that you used all of these opaque pigments and got such transparent results! I adore cobalt turquoise as well, but mostly use as a jewel… I don’t have that red… curious what pigment it is? Closest thing I might have is Pbr11 lunar earth. Thankyou for sharing this 👏🏻😮🫶🏻👏🏻

      No fountain pen in this one! The Uni-Ball AIR is linked in the description though :) A recommendation from Teoh that I love!

    Question, are we allowed to join in with the colour palette challenge if we aren’t on your patreon? Is there a hashtag you would want us to use on insta (if we’re allowed to play)?

      @@windywednesday4166 I've definitely come around to colors with white, as long as they're high quality! If you want something that's a bit lighter than the one in this video though, Schmincke's Titanium Gold Ochre is the lightest version of PBr24 I've seen!

      @InLiquidColor Yes, so am i... but I want to experiment and research before I buy a whole tube of something with a White mix. I recently picked up several sets of Rosa gallery at deep discounts... so I'll probably use the Yellow Ocher (P.Y43, P.Y.42) from that set. I think it'll be close... at least close enough to play with for now.

    I have used the Fabriano with Paul Rubens, White Nights, and other brand paints. The paper sucks and pills. the block doesn't hold and the paper warps. The colors do not spread. It dries super fast too. this is not a good water balance paper. maybe seatches and accurate color choices while painting

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Are you referring to Fabriano Studio or Artistico? Artistico isn't my favorite, but it held up extremely well to the abuse I put it through with the scrubbing with the first kangaroo.

    • @Sas_HeatherC
      @Sas_HeatherC Před 4 měsíci +1

      @InLiquidColor Artistico. I find myself going to Aeches cold press, but I need another less expensive alternative. I have not found anything that allows the paint to flow in the water.
