@drunkchemist my favorite is when you're getting report from them, and the most common answer from them is "i don't konw, let me look"

I agree I have never asked if patient had received a bath. As for the calculations, an error in a dobutamine gtt or levophed gtt could be deadly, it is safe nursing practice to make sure that these things are on point.

hahaha so funny! i work in the ED and have friends in the ICU so i can't really say much about this video. i think we have good and smart RNs in every specialty and we have not so smart ones in every unit as well. this is just an example of a not so good RN in the ICU. for the record i have cleaned more than my fair share of BMs prior to transferring my pt's to ICU or any other unit and labeling the lines just doesn't happen in the ED.

so inaccurate! lmao, except for the er not labeling lines. the er will do the bare minimum, and dump them in icu with little notice they're coming, and little report on what is going on, leaving it to the icu to settle and care for a crashing patient.

@123MangoPapaya i have never heard on any floor, let alone an icu, which i have worked on all of them ask if the lines were labeled or about diapers.

@drunkchemist the ac lines are started by ems. er lines are rare.

This is a joke and makes me laugh. I am an ER nurse and I start SEVERAL a day.

ER nurses need to pay attention to their patients instead of treating their rooms like conveyor belts to the units. Great you're busy, so am I If you'd just give me five minutes notice so I can degown and dream about a life before c diff.
Once had a patient that the ER brought up. Q15 breathing treatments and on a non rebreather (12 liters maybe?). Patient was freaking out, family was going nuts. Walk in to do my initial assessment and what's wrong? the pulse ox probe is on her fecking knuckle.

Two totally different types of nursing. Im tired of this pissing contest of whos the best, who has the harder job, whos smarter, whos the better nurse. This is why I think nurses need to cross train in ER and ICU to have more understanding for each job. None of this ER vs ICU waste of time and energy.

Did the patient survive? You said this was based on a real story.

WOW. this is the most absurd thing i have ever seen. i have never gotten a report that detailed from the ED. i don't think the ED has ever done a bath in history……they are extremely busy and so are ICU nurses, both specialized in their focus of caring for critically ill, but they are difficult to even compare. these videos are usually on point but this one made no sense to me. it is rare in large hospitals for the ED nurse to even bring the patient and whoever brings them just helps with the 5 other nurses to get patient on bed takes monitor and goes. The patient's are critical the receiving nurse needs to assess and probably put in lines drips drains etc if they aren't coding when they get there and the ED nurse needs to get back to ed. as far as i know, ED nurses do not have to document nor label anything so asking them to label or check the drips is also absurd.

I would have to disagree with you on ED nurses not giving baths. They may not be your typical head to toe CNA baths where lotion is applied after. We do wash and clean our patients. We have also been known to launder their clothes before they leave. We have homeless people come in covered in urine and feces, c diff patients, patients covered in blood, patients with bugs, nursing home patients that come in soaked with urine. Oh yeah we have that room called a Deacon Room where we have to be certified to give those baths.

One more thing I would like to add. In our hospital the ED does all of the lines, drains, meds and drips before bringing them to the ICU because apparently ICU nurses don't do those kinds of things.

True most of the time when I took a pt to the Icu there were 4-5 people to get the pt moved to a bed.

It took us an hour to stabilize her blood pressure.... *said a minute ago that her blood pressure is tanking by the second and shes on dopamine and levo drips*...i guess ER stablization is going from 0/0--- to 60/30. lol

@rongducdong i agree my last 2 or 3 admits could have been admitted to tele no into a cvicu. i got one the other day that was admitted to icu for a cardizem drip and bipap. the hospital policy states that both of those can go to pcu.
