But as a Knuckles fan I can't complain, memes are the only thing that keep Knux relevant since Sega are slowly de-evolving characters (e.g Forces Tails) or outright killing them off (e.g Cream), unless you're a Shadow fan I would be sceptical how your favourite character will be treated next game (assuming they make the cut... :/).

Knuckles is my favorite character of the sonic saga
Classic Knuckles: Serious, but easily duped, lonesome and independent echidna who doesn’t fully trust anyone and only cares about protecting the Master Emerald.
Modern Knuckles: Less serious, has a decent sense of humour while still maintaining common sense and intelligence. But he still somehow gets duped by Eggman even after the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Comic Knuckles: Smartass, always knows what he's doing and would make a great leader.
Boom Knuckles: Lacks common sense, completely sad, relies on Sonic and friends, very idiotic. When he gets a chance to shine he completely ruins it, like when he became mayor for the day. He doesn't get duped by Eggman though... he purposefully joins him once!
Archie Knuckles is my favorite version of Knuckles easy.
