Muay Boran Techniques in REAL FIGHTS!

  • If you want to see Muay Boran in action on the internet you will probably only find very unrealistic pair performances with exaggerated and hardly applicable moves, but Muay Boran is much more than that, we can find numerous examples of Muay Boran techniques used skillfully and effectively in real fights. In this video, I show some of them, preceded by my execution of the technique specifying the name of it. Consider that in Muay Boran under a single name of a technique there can be several variations, so if my execution is slightly different from the one applied it is because one of the two is a variation.

    It's a pity that muay boran is not teaching in the academys usually, I know muay boran has techniques that you can't use in the competition but it'd be nice to see the thai culture preserved in other countries

    • @GaawutProductions
      @GaawutProductions  Před 2 lety +13

      Some academies teach it in Thailand and around the world but they treat it as a product to sell, they just teach a series of techniques and forms, that's all. There are very few masters who truly commit themselves to teach how to use these techniques, and who always try to innovate and refine to find maximum effectiveness.
      That's why I founded my own style of Muay Boran with my own methods.

      Some old Muay thai fights used to be more technical. Muay thai fighters nowadays are all about taking punishment and beating you know. Also, its because Muay thai wanna entertain the world. People enjoy seeing hard leg kicks and elbows. Muay boran was/is very evasive too.

    I've been practicing Muay Thai for the past 5 years, MMA for 3 years, and i have been studying and using Muay Chaiya in light, medium and hard sparring for the past 2 years, so i can say that Muay Boran adds a lot of usable skills for fighting.

      There are Muay Thai styles (Muay Kao, Muay Mahd, Muay Fimeu, etc.) and Muay Boran styles (Korat, Chaiya etc). Muay Boran styles are not used anymore in the ring, just the concept and some techniques are used, mostly by elite fighter at the top of the pyramid. I think it's too early to know which Muay Thai style are you inclined to, just keep practicing and you will understand it!

    could you make a video on how to condition the body to better resist pain from shinbone to rib ???

    • @GaawutProductions
      @GaawutProductions  Před 3 lety +1

      There is not a real way to condition your ribs. What you can do is:
      - Train your core and give great attention to the serratus anterior muscle.
      - Learn to control your breathing and exhale when you get hit.
      - Learn to be comfortable at being uncomfortable, getting hit in sparring will reinforce your pain tolerance.
      - Work on your defense
      Some people, even champions, train their ribs by hitting them repeatedly with a light stick or something similar, but this method has never been proved to work, ribs are just too fragile, I don't feel like recommending it.

      It is one of the best preventive techniques, it should be used when the opponent is unbalanced (after a Teep for example, 2nd clip), or as a sudden burst, ideally while opening the opponent's guard (1st clip).
      There is an article on my blog that explains the principles of combining the Weapons (Ruam Awuth).

    • @GaawutProductions
      @GaawutProductions  Před 3 lety +1

      @@hernancarballo483 I wrote an article on Quora and Reddit on the differences between Muay Boran and Lethwei (Burmese Boxing, in which you can use the head). This is an extract:
      "Both Lethwei and Muay Boran are known as "The Art of Nine Limbs" but I start immediately by specifying that in Muay Boran the head is practically never used. Most Muay Boran masters have no idea how to use the head, and when they talk about the headbutt, they refer to it as an infrequently used strike, a kind of "secret move" or "last resort", and they will tell you that the head should be used sparingly as there is a risk of damaging it, but in Lethwei the head is widely used, and the headbutts are used smoothly between punches and elbow combinations (Just check out Dave Leduc for examples).
      Besides, when training the clinch in Muay Boran, the possibility of receiving headbutts most of the time is not taken into consideration (Only good teachers take this into account, like mine, modestly), and consequently, the right precautions are not taken and the fighters assume positions that in Lethwei would never be used because you would probably be headbutted immediately."
      But I specify that in my style, the Modern Muay Boran (the one I'm currently teaching on the channel), the head has been implemented in all its shades.
      Thank you for your comment!
