    QUETZALCOATL
Main God of Aztec Mythology, Creator of man and the fifth sun.
Quetzalcoatl is the main mythological god of Mexico.
Just as the Greeks have Zeus, the Nordics to Odin, the Egyptians have Amon-Ra.
    We Mexicans have Quetzalcoalt.
His legend is still alive in the Mexican town, it is common to find in Mexico monuments, statues, paintings, figures, even Quetzalcoalt tattoos.

You did a really good run down on the basic beginner facts, so thanks for that Andres. Especially including it's modern place in the culture, I thought that was interesting. To be honest, I actually did click on this video to get a more in depth history on this mythological being and it's legends... but this narrator! 😣 I really don't know, was it just me?! I felt like I was actually losing interest 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah, I find that European /Christian interpretation of Native American gods to be inaccurate. They first off assume Indian deities and gods to be masculine more often than they should and they always look for “virgins” and try to turn native and other cultures into their own by warping it into extreme patriarchy.

The third scenario you mentioned which may possibly explain what happened to the actual man Quetzalcoatl is interesting. Around that same time that Tula fell we see the cult of Kukulkan emerge in the Yucatan (Friar De Landa) . The Maya describe him (what I consider to be an actual historical figure as opposed to a myth or legend) to be very similar to Quetzalcoatl and attribute much of their society to him. This is also around the time we see the Tula influence in the Yucatan Maya which you also mentioned. Very interesting.

One of the things you hear sometimes out there is that Quetzalcóatl was a white guy with blue eyes. Could not be farther from the truth. But how did this idea come about? The sixteenth-century friars tried to find out the reason for the presence of the indigenous people in these lands looking for the answer in the Bible, concluding that they were part of the scattered tribes of Israel.Quetzalcóatl, a character who did not accept human sacrifices and who was chaste, He came to the point where the friars began to consider that he was an apostle. In the middle of the 19th century, these ideas continued. A historian like Don Manuel Orozco y Berra writes that Quetzalcóatl was a Viking ...! . Nothing could be further from the truth. lord of the winds and ruler of the West. Third Tezcatlipoca, associated with the color white, not its white skin. In none of the ancient writings does he say he was white-skinned and bearded, that Mormons invented that to cement their wild story of the new bible. Please don't distribuid a bad information of my culture.

While you're right that the first mention or hint of Cortez as Quetzalcoatl was in the 1530's, Bernal Diaz DOES mention the sentiment being expressed by envoys of Montezuma several times, and by Montezuma himself upon the Spaniards arrival in Tenochtitlan, then later during his time under Spanish detainment he is said to have elaborated on the belief even further. He was contemporary, and present for a lot of VERY iconic moments. He just didn't share/publish his account until he was almost 80. You'd also have a hard time explaining why the first order of business for Montezuma after receiving the Spanish was to inform him of all of the treasures, statues, trinkets, etc inside of the temple of Quetzalcoatl stating they were his property, and why the Aztec didn't start braining the Spaniards when they immediately started ransacking it, or even why Cortez felt confident to give the order to the soldiers to start doing so. Whether it was Montezuma's attempt at saving face and retaining control of the people while simultaneously placating the Spaniards and getting rid of them peacefully, or a genuine case of mistaken identity for a returned God, who's to say?

    • @mexicounexplained

This was interesting. I’m trying to understand where the serpent fits in , because it’s EVERYWHERE!
This particular civilization did human sacrifice to this Feathered Serpent at this Pyramid. Or is that not necessarily true? You did touch on this topic.
On a side note. A good Toltec book of wisdom “The Four Agreements”
    Thank you 🙏🏼

    • @mexicounexplained
      @mexicounexplained  Před 5 lety +2

Hi Cathy. Yes, the serpent is everywhere. Human sacrifices were usually made to Huitzilipochtli, the Aztec god of war. Quetzalcoatl was against human sacrifice (but approved of sacrificing butterflies). I'm sorry to say, but there are no Toltec books of wisdom. The Toltecs disappeared about 1250 AD and they didn't have a writing system. What we can understand about their belief system(s) only comes from looking at what remains of their art and comparing it to later civilizations (the Aztecs) and those before of contemporary to them (the Maya) who had writing systems. This "Toltec wisdom" comes from a blend of the 1960s Chicano power movement combined with New Age beliefs. The Toltec belief system is pretty much a historical blank slate, so that gives people license to say whatever they want about it without the messy problems of verification. There are some things in this "wisdom", though, that we know are completely wrong. The concept of "The Nagual" as some sort of person you become in your dreams is WAY off base from the real definition of "Nagual" according to all the other civilizations in ancient Mexico. I was thinking of doing a show on the New Age and "Toltec Wisdom" because there are a lot of things that people are just throwing out there that have no basis in anything, and THEY ARE CHARGING BIG BUCKS for this special "wisdom." Thank you for coming by and for commenting. I always love the crossover from Matt's channel.

Identifying Quetzalcoatl with Jesus Christ is quite a stretch since the serpent is in Christianity identified with evil. The naughty serpent in the forbidden tree in the garden of Eden is sometimes said to have been feathered. Jesus is sometimes depicted in paintings as crushing a snake with his foot. As far as the "immaculate" conception story and women having babies by gods, this appears in other cultures as well.

The Abrahamic faith is against serpents likely due to the fact that the origins of the faith comes the ancient land in the middle east that is home to Egypt and other cultures that reveared the snake as a important deity or in some cases gods. Snakes were considered by many as one of the wisest of animals especially in how they hunted like they were studying and pondering how to make the strike . The legend indicates that he emigrated as a shame for his indecencies when he took pulque, fled to the Gulf of Mexico (currently Coatzacoalcos, in the state of Veracruz in the year 999) aboard a raft, sailed across the river, until he lost himself on the horizon , not without first making the promise that one day he would return.
The followers of Quetzalcoatl remained in that place, awaiting the return of their leader and thus supposedly appeared the first settlements in the southern region of Veracruz, Coatzacoalcos which means = "place where the feathered serpent hides", Minatitlán, where I am from Native, Cosoleacaque, Ixhuatlan del Sureste, among other cities, the legend blends with reality giving rise to the current myth.

I'm going to share my first hand experience with Quetzalcoatl. I met him on a Magic Mushroom trip and he is not what you think. I see him as a DMT type entity (Google images) and the image of a "Plummed Serpent" is just a discription.
Kinda like how "history" portrays a Palestinian looking Jew as a Brown haired blue eyed Caucasian. Anyway what I saw was the "priest / shamen" described his DMT FORM to the people and their imagination's tried to make sense of the discription. Hence the "Feathered Serpent" stereotype. In all honesty I don't know shit about him so I am doing as much research now to make sense of what he showed me. I do believe he lives within a pyramid in Mexico and that is his abode is impression I got from him.
I know people's dense perceptions can't fathom that not only are these beings real you can talk to them but you have to meet them in their realm. Our reality is insanity to them and they are trying to guide us to correct our coarse.

Arabic, which first emerged in the northwest of the Arabian Peninsula, is a member of the Semitic family of languages which also includes Hebrew and Aramaic. Whilst very early manifestations of Arabic date back as far as the 8th century BCE, the language has been defined and refined over a considerable period of time.
    THE LETTER J
Both I and J were used interchangeably by scribes to express the sound of both the vowel and the consonant. It wasn't until 1524 when Gian Giorgio Trissino, an Italian Renaissance grammarian known as the father of the letter J, made a clear distinction between the two sounds.
The first distinction between the letters "u" and "v" is recorded in a Gothic script from 1386, where "v" preceded "u". By the mid-16th century, the "v" form was used to represent the consonant and "u" the vowel sound, giving us the modern letter V.
Waw/Vav (wāw "hook") is the sixth letter of the Semitic abjads, including Phoenician wāw
This Hebrew letter ו (Waw / Vav) is the 6th letter in the Hebrew Aleph-Bet, and is pronounced differently in various dialects of Hebrew. Some dialects (including Modern Hebrew) use the 'v' sound, and then this letter is called 'Vav'. Other dialects use a 'w' sound which makes the name of this Hebrew letter 'Waw'.
    hook or peg
Waw. The word. (waw 520) means hook or peg, and is strictly reserved for the hooks/ pegs that kept the curtains of the tabernacle in place. It is said that the shape of the letter waw reminds of a hook or peg.

The first contact of the Spanish in Mexico was in Yucatan, and in fact Gonzalo Guerrero was a Spanish who lived with the Mayans at the time of the conquest in Mesoamerica. When Cortez goes to Teotihuacan or the Mexica city or as you know the Aztec city, hehehe, Ya Moctezuma knew that he was not a god. and in fact Moctezuma III invites him to his palaces, a thing that unnerves the people and their general Cuahutemoc. It is a lie invented by white Spaniards, that people in Mesoamerica venerated them as gods. That is very racist and supreme, like the white man posing as god. hahaha not my friend, when cortewz advanced to tenochtitlan the people knew that they were men from other lands, not white gods, hahahaha. Your information is wrong again. I can't believe the nonsense the white man thinks and now. Please don't distribuid a bad information of my culture.

Aren't you the one that commented here about "Tolteca Philosophy"? So, you fall for that unsubstantiated crap and then you go off on the professor for something he didn't say. The only way we can know of their belief system is to make educated guesses off of their artwork and architecture. All "Toltec Philosophy" has been fabricated and spread around by people who want to make money. Sorry you fell for it.
