I rarely comment on CZcams these days because I typically watch on my TV, but I got on my phone, logged in, and re-found this video to offer my appreciation for you. I just love your enthusiasm for life and providing survival tips on a budget. This is a super random connection to my job, but I work with poor folks on a budget, many of whom are concerned about being able to take care of themselves and their families. This has been an intriguing adventure and a great reminder to me about using the resources we have available to us and thinking outside of the box. Thank you.

Use your fire to bend your wood.. put it high enough over fire where it steams but doesn't burn. (Woodworkers trick) to save cordage make hoops abt the same size and weave the cane ... Yes river cane or cattails stalks work great for fish traps.. we made them when I was a kid. But of course safety pins and some finer strands of para cord work well for a trot line. And, dress for success.. shorts may not have been the perfect attire for the job at hand. LOL 😂😂 save the spam can.. you can use it as a container for boiling water etc... I would have kept that Rock Trap set, all. the. time. An ultimate goal of a primitive survival challenge is to not have to eat the food you brought, and your foraging options were phenomenal. Spending an entire day of down time, is a good idea, especially with your limited calorie intake, and your low water supply. Your Fish trap will either work, or it won't. At the very least, you've shown us what we can do better.

Some areas (especially near water) will have very tall vines that are excellent for these projects. Bait is not needed as the fish are upstream & will not know the bait is there. Likewise, downstream fish will likely not be able to swim upstream & into the trap. Tie the cordage closer to the open end of the trap & and tie to a tree trunk or heavy rock. Placing a rock on top of the cordage is not secure, as the water drag may take your trap downstream...

Make sure to take Bella each trip. She not only keeps you company but is good security.. you should watch primitive fishing they show how they catch river crabs and fish. Just digging and covering up the top.. they seem to always catch something. Your fish trap is impressive also.

Use the Native American fish trap. Make a M in the creek against the bank, fish swim into the v of the M and can't find their way out. I simplified it for typing but you can look it up. It's effective for fish that like darker areas. For the fish trap you're making use smaller greener branches and closer together, otherwise you'll need big fish to enter it.

To make your fish trap more effective for smaller fish, take some of those brambles from the other day and scrape the thorns off. Bang them down until they make a decent bendable fiber and weave it through the branches of your trap. It will give you a sturdier structure and close up some of the larger gaps.

I wish he used 2 thicker logs for the head and the foot of the bed and then placed long thinner sticks across from each end to make bed. Use stakes to keep them from moving thus saving cordage and as well as keeping himself off the ground directly. Throw some dead grass with a garbage and you got yourself a nice bed. Since you have a roll of garbage bags you could stuff one as well for a pillow!! Great videos brother!! Thinking I might start making some outdoor bushcraft videos as well!!!

I haven't had the luncheon loaf at dollar store before but I do have at least one can of Spam on hand at all times. I seen a spamaholic even been to the Spam museum. Hey, it in my home state. I slice it, fry it and make a sandwich with some cheese. Oh, mouth watering.

I think I may have used a trash bag to cover the wood pile so it didn’t all get wet in the rain. And id climb into a trash bag to keep in body heat so you don’t get too cold. Those trash bags could for sure have more uses.

I love that, right at the beginning, your comment; 'apparently I shake the trees!' Class.
I was delighted to see you use the hot water-bottle and I cannot recommend enough that you make those big tongs (hell, just two sticks tied in a 'v'), prepare a safe area in your shelter for hot rocks, and take one of the hot stones into the shelter with you at night, it's your own free heater and on very cold nights, just go get another stone from the fire later on.......
I still want to see you windproof the walls, piles of leaves with some earth over the top, could be done in a few hours and would make that shelter positively 'cosy', you might do something about the ends too??
I make no comment re the fish-trap (there are some very good comments already).....I just lied; I've got two!
    1. Placement; I don't argue with where you put it, but the entrance should have covered all the area, so a few 'well placed' rocks at the sides would have made it a true funnel.
    2. Anchorage; you don't want all your hard work washed away and lost, even a big fish threshing around probably would've dislodged that trap....if it ended up in a pool frequented by water moccasins?....best to anchor it to the stone or just drive a sturdy peg and tie to that.
All that said, I realize that you are on a learning curve and you have my respect.
I doth doff my cap in your general direction, Sirrah!
    Oh, and good-night Bella......
    Pax Dude

I treat mine like spam cut in half long ways. Cut one half into cubes and then cut the other half long ways again making 2 squarish patties for 2 sandwiches for lunch. Take the half that you cubes and start pan frying it. Once you start seeing it starting to brown on the edges, add 3-4 beatten eggs. Season to taste. Best "Spam" and Eggs I've ever cooked

Not a hard core survivalist, but have done my share of cold weather camping/hammocking. You may have had a better time sleeping if you packed one of your trash bags with grass to make an insulating layer (like a sleeping pad). You could have also packed a second bag with grass and had a pillow. This would have left you the ability to add your coat layer on top if it got cold. Loving the series so far!

Pasta/rice sides aren't glamping in my opinion, that's just economics. Cheap calories, lightweight, they store for a very long time if kept dry, you need very few resources beyond the bag to prepare it. It's some great camping/backpacking food.
