Pokemon is completely killing it these past two years. The stuff they are putting out is beautiful. I have no idea how prices of this stuff will fare in the long term, because i just can't see sealed stuff 5x'ing quickly when the supply of singles with be ridiculous, but these sets are so fun to open. We really are in a golden age of pokemon. A nice binder of trainer galleries, alternate arts, and illustration rares is truly something else.
You can't call it a "golden age" when the games are BY FAR the worst they have ever been. If you have to cater to 26 year old nostalgia to get noticed then that just tells you how shit pokemon has become the last 5-10 even 15 years.

There's a critical overlap of lots of factors leading to the current anticipation for the set. In terms of the actual gameplay, the SV sets have been mostly weaksauce outside of a few cards and the standard format continues to be dominated by SW/SH cards. 151 is the first set in a minute that has enough pieces for new deck archetypes, and specific cards like Mew EX everyone wants at least a single copy. In terms of collectors, it's a generation 1 set and its also the first set in ages to have a full Abra-Kadabra-Alakazam line, now that Uri Geller finally dropped his beef with the pokemon company. There's gonna be a lot of people that want a collection of 1 of each pokemon card from the set to have a collection of the original 151. So yeah, it's gonna be big.
In Japan the did a reprint of this set in late July because the demand was so high. They released in waves as well so I imagine they would do the same with the English set. Even with the reprint the market price for booster boxes stayed the same and singles still went up.. It’s crazy.. They still have Crown zenith product releasing so I imagine 151 will be no different. They would want to still have 151 product on the shelves for Christmas. One downside of the English set is they don’t have the Masterball reverse holos.
And this is why I'm convinced Pokémon Japan hates the US lol. Japan gets the best stuff. Sure, it's birth was there but cmon Japan! We never seem to get nearly as many cool things that they get with Pokémon.
Im not aware of a reprint. But the waves that you mentioned are from the one week time frame you had to order the Japanese booster box. And thats 1 booster box perhouse hold in japan only. And that will be sent out from Sept to late December

Pokemon is the one tcg i really dont have doubt on, the games sell amazingly well, they (usually) dont overprint and at least in my area's card shops people play the game actively.

I usually think the same thing, but honestly tcgplayer prices for a case of UPCs seems very reasonable. Less than 600 for 6 of them is almost 150 dollars under MSRP. Now personally, I think this will be like the charizard UPC and 151 UPC prices will probably hang out around 100 dollars after release for at least a year. However i really dont see them going severely below their current price of about 95 per. Of course literally ANYTHING can happen, but i am super picky with the prices I pay and I am fine with the current UPC case prices, especially if you want to open one

151 will get reprints when and how much is the question - Look at Crown Zenith generally available at below retail some item's close to distribution and they are reprinting ETB's (they should use / should have used that printing capacity for 151)
151 is considered a holiday set like Crown Zenith and Shining Fates. Both are still available. Presale orders for 151 are FOMO high on TCG. However, the big box stores should have plenty. This set is going to be a blast to open today, keep the best singles, and store sealed for the future. Happy hunting!
Specialty sets are almost always printed to oblivion. Even hidden fates has appreciated poorly when compared to booster boxes of regular sets from the same era. This set will be no different.
I moved to Japan 8 years ago and every new set is HYPE AF lol. Booster boxes are between 40-60 here and people will pay upwards of 200 the amount of tendies is to the moon. Pokemon cards here are dirt cheap anyways to the point of where It became my job. Not even inflating prices and I alway sell under what stuff is worth to move it quicker. Going to local shops and being able to find cards that are worth 50-60 bucks for less than a dollar is so common its insane. Don't even get me started on all the JP exclusive stuff. On the flip side shops sell MTG here also very cheap. boxes and packs are cheaper than the US and singles are wild. I went to a shop and they had a huge box of thousands of Foreign black border and they wanted 30 yen each and they where pack fresh. I went through and picked out everything that was worth $20-50+ the weird thing is even if I only sell locally here in Japan I can still make tons of profit . I will go to one shop and buy cards whether its pokemon or MTG or yugioh etc and then go somewhere else to sell or sell them online locally and still make bank and its even more selling to people in the US. The prices on stuff here is different everywhere you go, shop to shop to the point of where its just pure insanity. after living here 8 years I still can't wrap my head around all the stuff and the prices they want for it but I been eating it up for years lol

I don’t buy Pokémon at all but I don’t think promoting printing boxes to the moon right now is a good thing. If someone buys a box and it doubles in price that’s ok. Especially since most of the boxes seem flat or lose money.
