Poland were a magnificent side in the 70s and 80s. What long rangers from Deyna and Boniek in 2nd half!
After that beat England to qualify I was genuinely sorry they didn't win the cup, they were a genuinely great side so often ignored because of Holland and Germany.
and then we got walkman's casette players and Radio Luxemburg :)
@@1bert719 You say about 1974 World Cup and that was of course the best result of our National Team except of 1982 but the best team we had probably in 1978 World Cup. We had all experienced players like Deyna, Lato and returned after injury Lubański who were great. Except of them we had young fantastic players like Boniek and Nawałka who were recognized as one of the best young players in 1978. And that's not even the end of our great talents because injuried was Terlecki and such a talented guy like Okonski who probably are not known as a great players out of Poland but we had almost an infinite potential. Those were the golden days of our football.
@@Lukasz_G From my perspective as an England fan Poland's great dominant period was bookended by England's own fall. From the 1973 defeat through to the re-emergence of England at the 86 tournament when they once more overcame Poland. That decade of excellence for Poland should have yielded much more respect. Sadly they are oft forgotten behind the Dutch and Brazilian teams in those tournaments.
@@1bert719 I coudn't say that more proper than you :) For us of course we remember those great teams of Poland from 1974 and 1982 (even 1978 though) and we are some exhausted because of our today much lower level of National Team. In 70s and 80s we had strong league with teams of Widzew Łódź, Górnik Zabrze and Legia Warszawa. Communist regime which was real trouble in many areas didn't allow our players to play in famous western teams under their 30's.
At that era it was impossible to see Polish players in big european clubs what I think is one of the reasons why they are not as remembered as they should be. Only one exceptional case was Boniek who was transfered at 26 years old. We had big talents but generally political situation and realities of 70s and 80s (not only political, but economical and mental too!) weren't good to be more remembered today for fans from all of the world. If you look back at 70s and 80s Poland was probably the most stable team which always played on high level even if players were changed from 1974 to 1982.
Even in 1986 we had some talented guys, but they weren't as good as their predecessors.
Sorry for that long post but I'm a kind of amateur historian of Polish football :)

I was only 11 years old and watched most of the matches ..
missed just few of them ..
Poland in 70 ties was just amazing.
It's impressive that the English commentators were able to pronounce all those Polish names almost adequately.
Because none of them is called Brzęczyszczykiewicz.😉

Football before 1990 was like wrestling 🤣. The referee rarely show the card. Poor talents like Maradona and Pele did not get the opportunity to display all their talents

Polska miała wtedy ogromne szanse na Mistrzostwo Świata. W tej drużynie grali tacy wspaniali piłkarze, jak: Boniek, Deyna, Lubański, Lato, Szarmach, Gadocha. Niestety nie udało się. Atmosfera w drużynie nie była dobra.

Lubański siedział na ławce A mieliśmy najsilniejszy skład w historii jeszcze powinien być Terlecki ale za aferę go wywalili i nie pojechał na mistrzostwa. Gmoch beznadziejnie ustawił składy.

ale mała korekta: Terlecki był kontuzjowany. Przez aferę nie pojechał do Hiszpanii.

Polacy kiedyś potrafili grać z Meksykiem-dziwne? Mało tego:remis z nimi był dla nas porażką!Czesiu,znasz historię,czy w szkole w oślej ławce siedziałeś?...p.s.choć po jednej z akcji należał się karny po faulu Tomaszewskiego-sedziowanie wówczas było na jeszcze bardziej chujowym poziomie niż dziś...
Ale trzeba przyznać:Meksyk zagrał świetny mecz.Gdyby nie Tomaszewski i szczęście...ale oni grali,a nie stali jak te polskie krowy kilkanaście dni temu!...
Szczęście sprzyja lepszym tak było jest i będzie

@VaceK There are other videos of the game Poland vs. Mexico, where it is clearly seen that it is not offside and the Mexican striker runs exactly on the pass that is sent to him and runs in line without being offside, but the linesman marks Offside already when It is ahead, but it was not offside, unfortunately there was no technology and they had to mark the last thing they saw

Mexico in the soccer World Cup is a joke, they always lose, mexico is not a soccer country and its soccer team has no soccer history.
Mexico is an above average Concacaf team that,on its' 'day', can give a team better than itself,like Germany,Brazil,Italy or Argentina,a bloody nose,so to speak.......and it comes to each WC with a lot of hype.......
However,it does not have the sustained consistency,or pedigree,to win a WC......
