      Zomby Woof He's my guitar Antihero. The one factoid I had about him back in the day was that he didn't used his two high strings. I loved that because I never used my high E. I would take it off. Then I bought a set of his strings and that was it. I was inspired by the primitiveness of his playing. It felt raw and honest. No bullshit. I was in Cancerslug almost 10 years ago and his influence helped me play a lot of those songs. He and Alex are a great match. Killer band.

      Squid Tickler Exactly. Having heart and soul in your music is far more important than knowing every single chord and being able to play perfect solos etc. Jimi Hendrix didn't play his guitar "the right way" at all, and look at how great he was. Finding a way that works for you is the way to go.

    • @squidtickler3128
      @squidtickler3128 Před 10 lety +17

      You summed it up quite well. I would also throw in showmanship. The ability to entertain. Does it make you a better musician, no...but it makes you more memorable. It's finding the right balance of both. Doyle is a solid musician, and a solid entertainer.

    • @squidtickler3128
      @squidtickler3128 Před 10 lety +17

      Misfits pretty much created the genre of Horror Punk. Which obviously you're not a fan of, and that's ok. The genre is inherently not technical. It's 3 or 4 chords...i believe it stems from this genre the kids today call rock n' roll. But, you know...Rock n' Roll never influenced anyone so you're right.
      It's also terrible that displaced teenage emo kids like rebellious music. I thought teenagers got over the angst thing a long time ago,...sigh....I'm going to go eat a werthers original now and ponder this list below for awhile.

Kind of like what KISS had going for them in the 70's. Also why should he give it up. The look of a band is almost just as important as the sound. It's all mixes together in a way. Also he's more likely to get the attention for any project he does with the look. It's smart if you think about it for a little bit.

Then you get this guy who is laid back (probably blazed), chilled out, yet still looking like a zombie on steroids. It screws with the mind.

Once you're done, scrap it and rebuild it, correcting all the mistakes you made in the first. You get to reuse most of your initial investment.

    Truer words have never been spoken when he says "you don't have to know how to be a great guitarist, you have to just write good songs". That is the secret behind all the great bands in the world. ACDC, Misfits, Sex Pistols, The Ramones...they all have one thing in common. Great songs. Hell, all of those bands together probably know four chords, one scale (the major scale) and that is it. Listen to Blitzkrieg Bop or Pumpkin Head or Highway To Hell. Simple, relentless, tight and in your face. Great rundown but the interviewer has got to get over the "starstruck teenager" vibe. He is so "wow! that is so cool...unbelievable..."
