1st Impressions: Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN for Fujifilm X-Mount in Chinatown

Do we need another 23mm lens for the Fujifilm X Mount? The more options we have, the better. Sigma has finally decided to release two more lenses in Fujifilm X Mount, the 23mm f/1.4 DC DN and 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS. I had a chance to test the 23mm f/1.4 lens while around my regular walking route from Strathcona, Chinatown and Gastown, and I give you my first impression thoughts. Overall I'm happy with the lens performance. The optics can handle the new 40MP sensor, I love the rendering, sharpness, and good control of CA. The only real negative is size and weight, but all lenses in this category tends to be big and bulky, including Fujifilm's. I also wish it had a dedicated aperture ring. Look for my long term review.

If it is aloud,a bit of constructive criticism. On my end the sound of the video was a bit strange ,it sounded a bit metallic and clipped at the high end when you were talking.

Nice walk around lens, with the crop factor isn't that around 35-36mm, also a great focal length for walking around.

Yes great general walkaround lens with approximate equivalent field of view of 35mm on 35mm format.

Viltrox 27 mm 1.2 or Sigma 23 mm 1.4 for video? Both have problem with focus breathing for video autofocus

I would say neither are ideal for video. There are lots of good manual focus cinema lenses in the 24mm field of view for APS-C mount. You should care about breathing if you’re using it for video, unless you’re not changing focus very often. If that’s the case, you don’t need an autofocus lens.
