    IQ became one of my fav bands. I love both eras. Personally i think nomzamo and are you sitting are great albums.

      Not wrong there, buddy. Love most of the IQ catalogue and both Paul Menel albums were superb as well.

      The Menel albums as a whole dont compare to the first two discs and various "rare" from the 80s that are also godtier BUT THIS FUCKING SONG is 10/10 and the best one from those albums on par with most of The Wake (which is a SUPER strong 9 for me and would be a strong 10 if Dans was on the album instead of Corners. Rip vinyl space limitations making that impossible back in the day. Hell I would have taken Barbell is In over Corners if they wanted a "trying for a hit" type song on it because that one at least is cool imo). My favorite thing from this band ever by a mile is the 30th anniv remix of the debut. Godly shit that makes me cry at multiple points. Last Human Gateway is high art and almost untouchable.

    This is a fantastic sound and the highest musical level; it remembers me to GENESIS in 1974, specially the song "Fly on a windshield" from the Album "The Lamb lies down on Broadway"!

    Strange seeing Pete Nicholls singing a Paul Menel song.
    Brilliant closing solo.

      This song existed before "Are you sitting comfortably" Peter sings the original lyrics. But it changed quite a few times through the years.

      @@fituurpan Very interesting. Was this song written before Peter left the band the first time?

    Overall I thought IQ were better than Marillion. More interesting songwriters. I've seen them live several times since the early 2000's and they were always excellent, although shamefully I completely ignored them back in the early 80's when I WAS listening to Marillion and just getting into prog rock.

    Never been really fan of the "live ending" of this song, the original one is so much stronger in the way they keep rolling on with that ending melody.
    IQ's "Firth of Fifth"

    • @jamespeterson1630
      @jamespeterson1630 Před rokem +1

      Yeah this kinda IS IQs Firth of Fifth which is a bit sad in a way cos it's on the album that gets shunned cos it's surrounded by weaker songs than it (this is definitely the best track altho I love Wurensh and Nothing at All)

    Such awesome GUITAR! What Effect Pedal is he using for that chorus sound?

  • @Cr8Tron
    @Cr8Tron Před 8 lety +1

    +John Sampson Presumably the Roland VG88. I own one, but still have yet to find some time to verify this being the case. I have, however, found presets that definitely match stuff from About Lake Five (off the '98 version), as well as Out of Nowhere.

    • @uapuat
      @uapuat Před 8 lety

      I know he's been using a VG-99 more recently but this might be a bit early for that. I read somewhere that before that he used a Boss multi-effect. He's got a GK pickup on his guitar, though, so a VG is definitely a possibility.

    • @Cr8Tron
      @Cr8Tron Před 8 lety

      +uapuat Yeah, the VG99 didn't come out until more recently. The same with the VG88, now that I'm actually looking at an actual timeline of Roland's products. You're right about his prior use of Boss' multi-effects board. A lot of the sounds in the VG88 and 99 originated from what you're talking about, which is why he chose them when he switched. Do you recall which particular multi-effects it said he used?

    • @Cr8Tron
      @Cr8Tron Před 8 lety

      +uapuat I've also read that the Fernandes Sustainer pickup has been a big part of some of his regular tones. Not sure if they were yet around as early as '93?

    • @niktembe7234
      @niktembe7234 Před 3 lety

      There was no VG88 in ‘93. There wasn’t even a VG8 in ‘93.
