In Anthropocene, there is a section where the world's oldest known piece of music is played. It's called 'Hurrian Hymn To Nikkal', and was found on a cuneiform tablet that is 3400 years old. If you recall, in the first song from the first side, Music, there is a line in there saying 'It is coming, coming, coming your way the very first song'. This is it.

I’d think Tuomos is not interested in movies. For me he’s up there with Mozart , Bach and the likes. He’s incredible and I for one am glad to be able to exist in the time of Tuomos Holopainen 🤘. I’ve heard the song before the video and it’s all I need. Put it on an the music takes me away. The video is incredible, I would love to know how it came about. It is so fitting to the music and so beautiful. Thank you for reacting to this, you should try this with no video and just close the eyes and listen, it’s truly something special.

To my recollection, Tuomas has said that he is not very enthusiastic about making film music. The film composer has to leave his work at the mercy of the director, editor and producer. Tuomas wants to retain 100% right to decide on each note. That’s why Nightwish pays for the masters of the albums in full and then hands them over to the record company.

    • @Wolf-ln1ml
      @Wolf-ln1ml Před 6 měsíci

It's not just the rights, but also the creative freedoms. The composers apparently work with a lot of restrictions, and I can fully understand that that can take far too much joy out of the process for someone like Tuomas.

I truly believe that Tuomas Holopainen in general and this album in particular will be taught in college level Music Theory and Appreciation classes for decades to come, and probably centuries from now he will be considered in the same vein as the classical greats such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and all the other great masters of the art. I would hesitate to say that he has even gotten close to his peak yet, he just keeps getting better and better as he gets older and gains more experience in the world and in music.

Thank you so much for doing this. Just an amazing composition. Vistas are places where you can see beautiful land and seascapes at a large scale. Anthropocene is the name of our current geologic age where humans are the dominant force. The spoken word part in Ad Astra is from Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot and is inspired by a photograph of earth by Voyager 1 taken from outside our solar system. Troy was playing the uilliean pipes in The Moors and Floor was doing the ending vocals in Ad Astra. Ad Astra is the show closer for their current tour. I agree that Tuomas perfectly captured the quiet of winter. Reminds me of my childhood in Vermont and being in the woods in February. Love how Tuomas has challenged us at the end of this piece to think about our home and our future. I think the abrupt, unresolved ending is meant to symbolize humanity's unresolved future. It is up to us to figure it out!

Tuomas love Hans Zimmer, even using "Crimson Tide" as an intro to live concerts, years a go.
Did you feel "The Green" breathing, ebb and flow? Giving us oxygen, absorbing carbon dioxide?
I had an epiphany when listening to Jean Michel Jarre "Oxygene" on headphones, when it came out, all the music was breathing.
The fans that made this, are almost in Tuomas' head! He likes it enough to include it in the Nightwish Museum.
    Yep, "Lord of the Rings"!
"Ad Astra" Almost impossible to sing... Yet Floor did it at the end of their live concerts!
"What's that sign?" Pripyat, Chernobyl, deserted, rotting away. The message...

Tuomas has talked about doing movie scores in at least one interview I’ve seen; the gist of it was that he loves film scores and would in theory love to score a movie, but admits that he has an overly-romanticized notion of it and that the reality would be a disappointment (deadlines, forced to make changes, not having complete and final creative control, etc).
Definitely check out the Life & Times of Scrooge album; it’s a soundtrack he wrote for his favorite graphic novel to share the music that’s always been in his head when he reads it. Everyone says Lifetime of Adventure because it had a music video but please please please, Last Sled to Dawson is breathtakingly beautiful and you need to hear it.
Tuomas is absolutely on par with the big name composers you mention (and in fact, he cites Hans Zimmer as one of his primary influences).

25:00 the whispers says "calme.. comme la neige" french for quiet as the snow. Anthropocene means the era of humans. Humans are one of the wonder of nature that adorn the world. Ad Astra means "to the stars" the future of the world is a future where nature expand beyond our planet and across the stars. I love that the last image of the video is Mars with a space station orbiting.

    Anthropocene
    adjective
relating to or denoting the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment.
"we've become a major force of nature in this new Anthropocene epoch"
What is Anthropocene in other words?
