  • Let's talk brassieres, bloomers and blusher with our fabulous pantomime Dames to celebrate this very bonkers British tradition.
Our Dames are Phylip Harries (Theatre Clwyd), Ian Adams (Wolverhampton Grand Theatre), Matt Crosby (Cambridge Arts Theatre) and Chris Hannon (Theatre Royal Wakefield).
The National Theatre's panto Dick Whittington is streaming for free on CZcams from 3pm UK time on Wednesday 23 December until midnight on Sunday 27 December.

Pantomime brings joy and laughter to thousands of families across the UK and we are so excited to share ours with you this Christmas.
We're making Dick Whittington available to watch for free in honour of the many venues who, like us, have been forced to cancel their Christmas shows this year.
If you can, please support your local theatre by making a donation or booking tickets for 2021.
If you’d like to support us, you can donate here: www.nationaltheatre.org.uk or send a text to 70450 with ACT 5 to donate £5 or ACT 10 to donate £10.
Texts cost your donation amount plus one standard rate message. UK Networks only.
All donations made to the fundraiser will be generously matched by a National Theatre donor. This means your support will have double the impact.

So nice to see theatres outside of London being spotlighted by the national theatre. Should do it far more often.

Watching from America. Many jokes we don’t understand. Love the spirit and energy of the show. And the great costuming, esp. the full English gown. Thank you National Theatre.

I challenge this is actually from Ancient Greece! Such fun! Always try to get myself to a panto. As I wrote, we got permission from Brit army Cyprus and we raided the Green Room. PRINCIPAL IN STATE OF SHOCK AND PRIEST BUT PARENTS AND TV TURNED UP TO FILM!

Bacon frazzles are such a dangerous snack. Glad to see representation for my people! 😜
Also, I legit love the red outfit (Ian) I might have found my new crafting inspo! 🤩
No shade to the other gorgeous dames, I just think Ian's is the top pick for me - I don't suit yellow, and have too many cats to attempt anything involving birds!

No Panto is theatrical comedy for mostly the working class with a bit of Social Satire. Very British and rather historical. Also much loved Dames even though they can be very rude and witty! I would describe Panto as a Mirror that makes us laugh at our culture, heros and stereotypes! I like the description of Panto Dame as dominus (“lord, master, ruler; owner of a residence”) and being very witty and using Satire about the place of a Domina! Especially mother in laws or women that think they are "All that!" But maybe "Drag" with the full understanding of being a man in a dress comedically, like a kind of dominating female clown! Its Satire of dominating women NOT wanting to be accepted as a woman kind of lol But with many other brilliant aspects. Panto Dames are fundamental to the whole pantomime performance and story and directors of the whole audience participation!
