Thanks for these recommendations! I have some formal art education, but have never taken any art history. But have learned a lot over the years and through my own reading, (and I have quite a collection of art books myself) many museum visits, exhibitions, documentaries and the like. I have to say, I've learned quite a lot about the history of how art was created by various artist's...many of the most famous names,
by watching the BBC produced show "Fake or Fortune" where someone owns a work of art that they believe to be by a famous artist, but they have not been able to get it authenticated. The hosts Fiona Bruce & Philip Mould take a deep dive into a particular artist and how they worked, their style, their influences and the colors & pigments they preferred. They also bring in the best experts that use the most high tech equipment to examine the paintings below the surface. The lengths they go to authenticate a work of art, or not, is incredible. My other fave art shows from the UK are Landscape Artist of the Year and Portrait Artist of the Year. I've learned so much from these two shows..not so much history, though. Just how different artists approach their work and how they create art under time pressure. And then how the judges see the artist's work. All these shows can be found on YT. 😊

Oh wow, that's really cool, Nancy! I will have to look up those shows, thanks for mentioning them! I love learning about art in any way I can and am always looking for new ways to learn. Thanks for watching! 😊

Oooh, I would love to have this "tabloid" book and definitely the color book as well! I only recently got back into art and am often wondering about color names such as "cerulean" or "chrome ...".
As for the masters books: I would most love to see books about expressionism artists, especially the ones from the "Blue Rider" group in Munich! I saw some of their names in your tabloid book, haha

I don't know that I have any books that are specifically about artists from the "Blue Rider" group, but now you have ne wanting to look into that more! Lol

@@CautionArtistatPlay You probably know their names, I was just too lazy to name them all, lol 😄

If I remember right, the book about Van Gogh mentions that he was inspired by Japanese art.

This video has made me long to be back in the UK, Shana, only for being able to ask at the local library for any book in print at the time of the request, and getting it at sometime in the near future. Especially for the first three! Though from the authors, I'm guessing that the first one may be French in origin.
Yes, it is! I will check with the library next week, as I haven't requested a book here before, but maybe... just maybe.. 😊.

@@CautionArtistatPlay I've just been checking Amazon UK, and had to pull myself up, or I could have spent a lot of money (even as used books, because of the postage and customs)!!!!
I used to spend a fair amount on books, because good used book retailers offered great prices, and I could never walk past a charity (thrift) shop without going in to check out the books! When I moved here, the removals men stood and took a long look at the number of books they had to pack...
I wished l'd packed them for myself when I unpacked them here, but I should have remembered that not everyone has a love and understanding of the value of books... After all, it's why I I stopped lending books, but began pointing people to the library. If ever you move, please don't trust your beloved books / art equipment, etc to removals people or even your willing helpers!

Thanks for the heads up!! I love my books and would hate for them to be damaged. I know what you mean about buying books, my sister and I used to like to go to the local library when they would have book sales. Great deals and for a great cause. I probably have what some would call too many books, but I just love them.

I do, too, but I won't part with any of them. At some point, a small trio of people are going to have to decide how to deal with them, but I'll be leaving some notes, cos some are now worth a few € / £'s - enough to make it worth their while to do some checking before disposing. I just don't want them all to land up in a skip (dumpster) or recycling plant.
Two of them are artists (one is also a crafter, as is the wife of the French part of the trio) so as long as the UK folk bring their car across with minimal luggage, that won't go to waste! They'll just have to argue among themselves about splitting up the art and craft equipment equally, but I'll need to leave notes for that, too.. Unless of course, I have used them all up... 😄

Well, at least you have some sort of plans for all your things! I don't have any children, so I'm not sure where my things will go. Maybe my niece and nephews, but my sister already has a ton of craft stuff that they are going to have to deal with. 😂
