Knowledge of recent events changed the entire meaning of both this song and video. It was never about Justin. It was about her greif😢

I think this song is Britneys best work. Its a haunting reminder that behind all the fame , there was a vunerable young girl who was criticized and mocked within an inch of her of her life. The lyrics "everytime i try to fly , i fall without my wings" really ring true in this time frame of her life. I agree with the first comment , the headwound came from the paparazzi attacking her in the beginning. To me that interprets how dangerous the invasion of her privacy can be. Most people forget paparazzi laws were changed in 2008 , largely in response to what happened to Britney the previous year. Before that , paparazzi really had free reign. They blocked her cars , congregated at her home, chased her through stores. They even tried to get up the skirt shots of her while she was still a teenager. I even remember reading about one earning a huge sum of money for secretly filming Britney brushing her teeth. Its actually terrifying. I often interpret this song and video as Britney's plea to be seen as a human being and really shine a light on what she was subjected too. It's grittier and much less fairytale than Lucky and Britney isn't playing a character, she's just her. Unfortunately it was taken as controversial or as some kind apology to Justin Timberlake 🙄. Hidsight proved that the other way round. I specifically remember after this , it got relentless, its like they thought she may be suicidal and were trying to push her there. Her plea for understanding and empathy was used to villianize her and further mistreat her.

Well maybe you can make a video update on this. As it turns out, Britney was singing about her baby (the first time she got pregnant). Justin Timberlake didn't want a child with Britney cause they were too young, so she took a pill that made her baby come out in pieces. It was traumatic for her and she didn't want to abort the baby. This video seems now to be about her aborted baby. Nothing to do with reincarnation.

I always thought she got the head wound from the paparazzi swarming her. Considering shes had so many invasive incidents with them, it wouldnt be a stretch to assume she wanted to show how dangerous they can be. Just my interpretation.

Now that you mention it, it makes sense. It could be the explanation but it wasn't obvious. That's a good interpretation. Thanks for your comment.

Re-watching the video, there's a scene at around the 40 second mark where you see her head being jerked back and her screaming and grabbing the area of her head the wound eventually appears. It's difficult to tell exactly what happens because of the chaos of the scene. But i think she gets struck by one camera from the front and falls into a camera directly behind her and that's how she suffers the head wound.

Well, yeah. Princess Diana had died 7 years before that.

@@soaribb32 I think Britney and Diana have many common things. Both seem to be quite vulnerable and sensitive persons, who didn`t deal well with press, paparazzi and public opinion;( and we all know how it ended badly for Princess Diana😢⚰🪦. Britney fortunately still alive, but she`s not happy in her life, I `m afraid🤔😟

If you pay close attention when she is leaving from the limo to get into the hotel, you can see one of the cameras hit her in the head and she falls back and that’s when everybody tries to swarm onto them. That’s where the head wound came from.

It's jarring to see this kind of controversy through the lens of today after so many big hits about doing pills and flirting with death by young artists. Hell, considering emo was entering the mainstream releasing something like the original idea would've been pretty timely.
I'l say this tho, without context the final videoclip is way more mystifying because damn, what a trip.

with those things in mind, i wonder what it would've been like if Billie Eilish were around that time. she'd have everyone up her craw over songs like "idontwannabeyouanymore" and lyrics like "i wanna end me." i never thought about Britney much at the time bc i wasn't old enough to get music really, but she was quite ahead of her time in that sense.

I'm really curious if you would have enough material to cover Britney's cancelled video for "Outrageous", where only 45 seconds was shot due to a knee injury that required surgery to fix.
Edit: I'd also like to see an update on this video now that we know more about why Spears wrote "Everytime".

I've always roll my eyes whenever someone accuses a celebrity of "glamorising" a serious issue. I seriously doubt that Britney was trying to encourage people to commit suicide, I think she just wanted to use her influence to shine light on a serious subject that should be taken seriously. I also think that this video was a kind of cry for help and an opportunity to show that she was hurting deep down

This song is about her and Justins choice not to go thru with her pregnancy. Its a apology song to her baby. The instrumental part is her lullaby. ❤😢
