Lyrics:
Desert sky, dream beneath the desert sky.
The rivers run but soon run dry.
We need new dreams tonight.
Desert rose, dreamed I saw a desert rose
Dress torn in ribbons and bows
Like a siren she calls (to me).
Sleep comes like a drug in God's country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses, in God's country
Set me alight, we'll punch a hole right through the night.
Every day the dreamers die to see what's on the other side.
She is liberty, and she comes to rescue me.
Hope, faith, her vanity
The greatest gift is gold.
Sleep comes like a drug in God's country
Sad eyes, crooked crosses, in God's country
Naked flame, she stands with a naked flame
I stand with the sons of Cain
Burned by the fire of love
Burned by the fire of love.
41 years of U2 existence, 56 years of my existence, 36 years as a fan of the band and I am seeing this clip for the very first time.

No other guitarist has ever sounded like this. Edge is a genius.
Fuck yeah,,
He’s a wizard
Yes, he has a unique sound. You know it's him right away. And what a great name.

@@NigriffHendrix = "Overrated, clapclapclapclapclapclap!" Nobody sounds like The Edge.
The Joshua tree is it one of the best rock album in the history!
Never forget what our ancestors did, how hard they worked and the deprivation they often experienced. We owe a great deal to them.
Absolutely..

Thank God Almighty for the brilliance of The Founding Fathers and the perseverance of the masses who brought the dream to fruition ! God Bless America! ! !
Let’s let god bless the whole world, OK?
@@maryannnaaman6143 Yes, of course.
And never forget how they desimated the native Americans
This song never gets old. One of my fave U2 songs from The Joshua Tree.
U2 music is timeless
yesss so true!
Yes indeed Webby. The whole album is one huge chunk of U2`s very best songwriting. I like almost ever track on the album, and there is really no " filler " songs. I like this song in every single way musically. Melody, lyrics, guitar, huge badass bass playing and fine drumming. Larry Mullin Jr. is a fine drummer who gets no recognition really. One of the best songs ever done by U2.
ABBA FATHER GOD did create the simplest of fabrics (waters,H²O) to sustain ALL forms of life here on earth
💘
Driving through North America, hearing this song on repeat... Heaven..
God bless us all
Y’all Bono’s voice was fucking incredible during this era
Became so weak and tired after zooropa 😐
Oh hell yeah! Greatest voice of our time. Damnit I wish I can sing like him.
One of the hidden gems off Joshua Tree....
I feel this is one of the most beautifully written songs.
edge is fantastic in this song!
Wow! Never knew a video existed for this one!
me either lol
I know the song but never see a video for this.
Same I’m stoked!
@@a.laddinsane me too. Never saw this video
Same here but I'm glad there is one.
For those that don’t know, this video was only available in the Outside It’s America documentary back in 1987 when the Joshua Tree tour had just started. This and Spanish Eyes were in that documentary. Spanish Eyes is premiering in the next week or two.
Never seen that documentary so I don’t know this video. I will discover tomorrow.
Nice to know! ThanKX!
That documentary was in the Joshua Tree 20th anniversary Box set (2007)

Rattle And Hum
Beautiful song in God's country.
@@annieshamblee39 🗽
I always in my heart felt that this was U2's "love letter" to America.
This video changes everything. As Americans I think it was lost on us at the time. U2's relationship with the states must have been more of a refuge than I had previously considered. The anti-hero that shouted a battle cry in Sunday Bloody Sunday, finally got to rest his weary head In God's Country.
You're probably right! I always thought that!
It's pretty clear from the interviews that they had a love/hate perspective. As great as they think it is in one moment, suddenly corruption, poverty and racism is around the corner.
it's clear - it's not a beckoning its a necessity. She is liberty - hopes, vanity and gold.
Everybody please read the thread by Juandi .
Very important what he says about the warning
The energy on this track is incredible.
the edge, the master♥
@@susieinthecountry4434 Its funny that you and the first guy should say that. according to Bono, this song was born out of a session in the studio under his house where the other three struggled to 'get some rock and roll out of the edge'
Either way, its one of the best things they ever did.
Te encuentro razón, pienso lo mismo... Tiene una energía especial... saludos 👍👍

41 years of U2 existence, 43 years of my existence, 28 years as a U2 fan.... and it's also my first time 😅
Bono looks amazing in this, especially when he's wearing the hat.
Yes, he was very sexy at that time 😄. He looks his best in the video "Red hill mining town" 😍
I agree bono was looking fine those days wish he would have kept the look
Pay attention to the video, the song sounds uplifting, but the message is a warning and criticism to modern society. U2 were and will always be ahead of their time
It's like Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen, not a celebration of America but what it represents and fails live up to
One criticism of current music (and the norms we are under) is that liberty to speak the truth. It is that double edged sword.
American society in particular.
My favorite U2 song with some of the most impressive, meaningful lyrics I've ever seen in my life.
I overplayed this song
@@vintagegirl1961I'm not sure if that's possible.
The Edge’s solo starting 2:11 is bloody brilliant here.
Agreed- electric!
Brilliant?? I wouldnt say it's brilliant, but it most definitely fits the song, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Better Christian music than 99% of all contemporary Christian music
So true!
I'm not even a Christian and i can agree with this.
By experience much of the 'music of faith' has become vacuous.

Arguably this is the best track on the joshua tree album, but u cud argue a case for every track on that iconic masterpiece.
The Joshua Tree, greatest album of all time, from the beginning to end. It's magic. What a lyrics, what a sound, U2 n#1, greatest, no doubt.

I'll never forget being in college when this album came out. Bought it Day 1 and wore out a new turntable needle playing it over and over. This was by far my favorite song on one of the greatest rock albums of all time.
Pouring out of dorm room windows.
He was handsome man .
My very last day of college I had a 600+ mile drive home, so bought a few cassettes for the ride, the Joshua Tree being one. It had only recently been released. At the time I was only a casual U2 fan. This album blew me away, played it the whole way. Lifelong fan since

Nice of Bono to give Edge, Adam, and Larry a day off. My fave U2 song ever.
😂
I've been a fan of the band for 40 years, and all melodies touch my soul, this one in particular talks about our faith and the history of humanity. great to reflect.
My first time hearing this beautiful song 🎵🎵🎵It was featured in the movie "THREE KINGS" ( George Clooney, Ice Cube) .I own the movie and have just watched it again tonight. This song closes out the movie. Loved it . Powerful.
I FIRST HEARD IT IN THREE KINGS too!!!
Tengo 35 años de fan y es la primera vez que veo este video
I saw a video of U2 performing this song live . I found it on CZcams. Not a concert in the U.S. He actually did an intro that the song was a tribute to the IRISH immigrants that started coming to the U.S. ( I think mid 1800's was the first big wave) He was praising our country, and the reference to the Statue of Liberty 🗽 in this video is very profound. What a great song 🔥❣️
Un abrazo a todos los U2 FANS ,SALUDOS DE MEXICO
I was walking across Colorado winter of '98, diamond dust blowing in the sun, and this song was in my headphones. Earlier that decade, walking across El Paso in the summer sunshine, same feeling, same set, a setting sun, golden twilight splashing around like amber whiskey from the sky, spilling over the mountains, flowing like a river of honey colored light down, down, into the abyss of dusk, and the starling dark blues and blacks of a desert night, slowly reclaiming the light until the sun rose the next morning. Keep going. It's worth it.
I am a Christian. I am thanking you for your Great Music ❤️😍. Lovingly, Gayle Raye Bremer
I have a favor to ask. Post nuclear war, Christianity is going to learn it was controlled largely by the Soviet Union. Learning this and being post nuclear war, much of Christianity will feel suicidal. But, intelligence agencies want Christianity to know that guilt trips are not needed, if Christianity wasn't used by the USSR, somethings else even more powerful would have been targeted by the Soviet Union. It's the actual point of the song, "Losing My Religion" by REM, where, oh no, Micheal Stipe said too much, and didn't say enough (to Christianity). Post nuclear war, could you, first, stay alive, and go mass media with Michael Stipe's message? Maybe if you proof this request is before nuclear war in origination by me, they'd believe you, and won't lose to Soviet induced guilt trips, and feel less oppressed and depressed therefore! Please?
Look at the looks on these kids faces.U2 has heart and soul God bless Ireland and the USA.Peace.

Easily one of their most beautiful songs.
I will never understand how this song was not the biggest song in the world, how this song was not way bigger than "Where the Streets Have no Name" or "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For".
The masses rarely respond to greatness or uniqueness. There's really no accounting for the embrace of one song or album over another on a large scale.
Please ! Also remaster the official video clip "Even Better than a Real Thing"

80's U2 get me sentimental and teary...they where so mature and on point with society in general...all those motley crueish and heavy metal bands where childish macho music detached from my reality in my town, pop music was disposal bs most of the time, the underground goth/punk/garage crowd was too cool to be indentified with, new wave was pointless at times and rap music too mean spirited and street wise...to me u2 was like in the middle of it all standing TALL and keeping an eye from the past and into the future...whatever happened to the fallen ones? what will we do and how to move on? How to apreciate life and fight for it?, how to make something positive with our lives? All those questions and critiques while making rock music. Thank you guys.
Beautifully said.
Accurate commentary.
This song still gives me chills. One of my all time favorites.

The official VIDEO is great too. Nice tribute to Irish immigrants coming over here circa 1850. Beautiful composition to the song as well. Listen to their " official VIDEO" all the time. Bono's long hair , leather jacket, gold hoop earring , made a very sexy front man. Love this jam❣️🎵 Too often over looked and it's my favorite song by them.
Giving me chills now
This song will forever remain in me, for my brother and I were skydiving over the beautiful desert of Tucson back in ‘96 and listening to this song as we we’re about to jump…his parachute didn’t open, mine did…he died in my arms
May he rest in internal peace in the loving and caring arms of the Lord.
Tell us more. i saw the 2nd Joshua tree show in Tucson first time. Bono's throat was unsingable in Phoenix
We need new dreams tonight...becasue they deserve a better world....we need new values tonight - because they deserve a better world...liberty and justice are not enough ... violence of all kinds toward children must end - but when?

While the songs on side 1 of Joshua Tree received the most fanfare, it was the songs on side 2 such as this one that gave the album its depth and resonance.
Track is about people imigrating to America..the lyrics "desert sky dream beneath a desert sky rivers run but soon run dry we need new dreams tonight" also refer to the beautiful Corbijnshoot for the JT album...mind Adam's bassline replied with Larry's percussion,Edges'recognizable guitarrifs which drives this song..

One of the most seminal moments of my life was driving alone across the Mojave Desert soon after the release of "Joshua Tree" with this particular song playing through one of the roughest parts of that desert.
