    I get a lot of maintenance questions about these machines. In most cases, folks either need a workaround or a firmware update. Firmware updates can be scary for some but with the DP units they don’t need to be. The impact can be great in most cases, so I strongly suggest the process if it’s not been done and then on a regular basis (at least once a year). I hope this presentation serves useful.

      Updated the firmware of my DP24 SD 6mths after getting the unit and it's been a joy to use ever since....we do a lot of tracks to take to studio to save time (and recording costs) it's insane value for the price and saved us thousands in studio costs

      I have only one question that I couldn't find an answer to in the manual for the DP-24, and that is; the two Effect Send inputs/outputs...where do they send to? What are they used for? initially, I thought it was an effects loop but it didn't work. The manual just repeats what it is. Can you help? Thanks

    I have really enjoyed your videos on the DP series from Tascam. I'm ready to switch to a hardware portable recorder. I'm sick of the Windows updates, interfaces, drivers, and the constant tweaking. My DAW is loaded with tons of plug-ins that are just there to make it look good. Looks like the DP has just about all you need. I suddenly realized I was mixing with my eyes instead of my ears.

I've been able to record and edit multitrack songs and burn them to cd. Do the updates you discuss apply to the 2488Neo? I've had problems with the problems with the Punch-In recording function which you describe. Also think in the past that trying to place editing in and out marks using the frame display was imprecise. Any assistance is appreciated.

    • @PowercoatMusic
      @PowercoatMusic  Před 2 lety

      No, the updates discussed in this presentation do not apply to the 2488NEO. The 2488NEO and the DP-24 have different firmware and are not compatible. I owned a 2488NEO for years and it's a great machine. It has some features the DP-24 does not have like Pitch; Ssa (Slow Speed Audition) control, which is very useful. Great videos and I love them, though I'm not really sure how you can consider the Tascam DP-24 (I own one and love it) to be a hardware recorder. It's still using some sort of operating system and software to do virtually the same thing as any DAW.

    • @PowercoatMusic
      @PowercoatMusic  Před rokem +2

      The reason why it’s considered a “Hardware Recorder” is because it’s designed and built from the ground up to do 1 thing, which is to record music at a professional level. All inclusive. PCs are not designed to do this. They require additional software applications and external hardware USB audio interfaces in order to record and produce music professionally. There’s a clear distinction there. Thanks so much for watching and sharing.

    Hi! Great to see. Help! You say we must make sure to have latest firmware. Also that it must not be generation 2 update loaded onto a generation 1 machine. I have a Tascam DP32 Sd generation 1. ( know that thanks to your video, as I have midi ports) I went to Tascam Update site today , 1st March 2023. They show the very latest version for DP32 as V.1. 11. They don't say anything as to if it is for gen 1 or gen 2. so I assumed(?) it fits both versions. BUT¬ When I checked my Tascam dp32sd ("Menu/Information", ) before downloading.... it says I have system version V.1. 12!! How can I have a newer version that Tascam says is available?? Confused! Tascam webpage stops at v 11! Help!

      On Tascam's website, the DP-24SD is the latest/newest unit and is the 2nd GEN unit. The 1st GEN unit is the DP-24 (SD is the difference). The firmware versions for both units are different so please be sure to use the correct models firmware, and you should be fine. Thanks for watching.

      @@PowercoatMusic Thanks for prompt reply. Im sorryif I didnt make myself very clear. My machine is Tascam DP32SD. generation 1. My problem is that the most recent firmware update on Tascam Webpage for a DP32 SD shows v.11. I already have V12 on my unit, Also on your video of the DP32Sd generation you clearly show notes for V15. So if th elatest version is V15 how do i get it when Tascam only go up to V11?? and their site MUST surely be wrong as I already have V12 anyway? I hope that explains it.

    I'm just wondering why it sounds so awesome when I'm mastering it down through the system, but by the time I put it onto a CD, the sound quality is lower.
    After I have mastered my song down through the system, I take the SD card and put it into my laptop, upload the songs, then put those into Windows media, and burn a disc.

    • @PowercoatMusic
      @PowercoatMusic  Před 3 lety +1

      There could be many reasons for this. However, keep in mind that when burning to CDs the recording quality cannot exceed 44.1 kHZ 16 bit. If you record at a higher rate, the audio must be converted down to 44.1 kHZ 16 bit in order to burn it to a CD. Also, Tascam does not recommend removing their SD cards to import songs to PC as their test and results vary from good to bad. For more information on importing and exporting songs/tracks on the DP-24, watch my video "Tascam DP24/DP32 Digital Portastudio: Importing and Exporting Tracks" on this channel. Hypothetical, so if you're pulling up a performance you haven't finished you have to manually set the faders back to where you thought you had them? How does that work, Tascam otherwise is generally solid recording gear.

      The feature is basically a snapshot of the mixer settings that are saved. In order for the faders to automatically restore to the spashot settings when loaded, they would need to be motorized, which would make the unit much more expensive to buy and maintain. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

    Can you use Pro Tools with this?

      If you have the 1st GEN MIDI unit, you can plug it into a USB interface and send and receive MIDI messages with a DAW. If you have the 2nd GEN SD unit, you can import and export tracks to and from DAW applications. For more information on this, watch my video "Tascam DP24/DP32 Digital Portastudio: Importing and Exporting Tracks" on this channel. Keep in mind that you can also do this with the 1st GEN MIDI units as well. Thanks so much for watching. 👍🏿

    Why is it so hard to load a song in the DP 32? I took it back but it was still hard to use... I formatted the card and everything

      You may want to check that the SD card is on the Tascam Tested Media List. Cards not on that list are not recommended because they have not been tested by Tascam with the unit. They may not be reliable even if it's a good brand. Also, ensure that you have the latest firmware installed. I hope this helps.

    I bought a used one 18 months ago. Problem is: I just had time to use it ( Tascam 24), and the buttons ASSIGN and MIXER are sticked . Like there was a lot of dust under them. Just want to know if someone had encounter this problem. I am thinking about open it and clean the buttons with WD40 for contact cleaner. So, be carefull if you buy a '"second hand" unit. These buttons seem to be fragile about "contact" . Thanks, have a good day. By the way, other buttons are also fragile, stick, mainly the REC. Sometimes you have to push on it hard to get a contact. Even many times... Or nothing at all...

      Like most electronic products, you have to be mindful of the environments you leave them in. Smoke, dust, humidity, along with many other factors can destroy a unit over time. People who take care of their equipment usually tend to have longer life and a better experience. I agree that you must beware the "Used" market. The good news with these machines (as with many others), is that if they are well cared for, most last a long time. Thanks so much for watching and sharing.

      I have an original DP-24 with midi. Bought it brand new so I’ve had it over a decade I think. Some of my buttons have gotten that way too. Deoxit works well from what I’ve heard on the Tascam forum. I haven’t tried it yet. I may try using another piece of midi gear to control the DP.

      @@leogolive You have to open the unit? I did not. But it seems hard to "clean". It works now. But some others need to be cleaned too. Like the ones of the tracks. Thanks!
