  • A bit of home video from Bromsgrove Carnival 1988. Very sorry about the picture quality and for the pathetic sound track. But you might recognise yourself somewhere?

Well done for uploading this Steve, i've been on the Bromsgrove Carnival Committee for a few years now and I still find it an enormous shame that bloody health and safety rules have gotten in the way of us having such a brilliant time. In those days of big floats, there were never any accidents that I know of. We'll never see days like this again sadly.

I'm there leaving the Rec wearing my Judo gi, with the kids of the Club and Dave Cotterill, my mate for nearly 30 years. Sadly we lost him a while back, and only 30 people allowed to his funeral, but plenty followed the service inside. The carnival was a great day, and the DDS&S had their usual float. Years later, I became vice President. Heartbroken when the Club folded

Hahaha this is wonderful - I grew up in Bromsgrove so would have been about 7 during the '88 Carnival. I don't think I saw anyone I recognised but some of the sights I do remember, for example there were actually shops and buildings on Recreation Road (not just boarded up ruins like today), Gateway and Bejams in the town. Clearly health and safety was not such a big deal as it is today with so many people balancing on the edge of flatbed trucks! I actually liked them music from 6:30 onwards - more songs should have a synth trumpet and slap bass! Thanks for posting :)

wow yes I did a lot of charity work for Victoria with my band, and I have quite a bit of footage of her that I shot on a lot of the charity raising, I have a film that all the cb radio people did, one was a conga all around charford, but I also remember a day trip to Weston which I have on film and a convoy to the childrens hospital in brum, think I also have an auction on tape we did and a gig at the labour club, will have to fish some of them out and post them on the Bromsgrove page, thanks for your comment, happy days eh, all the best, STEVE
