In Nancy Meyers' The Holiday, a romantic comedy from the director of Something's Gotta Give and What Women Want, two women trade homes only to find that a change of address can change their lives. Iris (Winslet) is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda (Diaz), realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda's L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris' handsome brother Graham (Law) and Iris, with inspiration provided by legendary screenwriter Arthur (Wallach), mends her heart when she meets film composer Miles (Black).

Nancy Meyers wrote this wonderful film, and i have enjoyed very much most of her other films such as The Parent Trap, What Women Want, Something's Gotta Give, The Holiday, It's Complicated, and The Intern. One of the best screenwriters alive. Really knows how to make a movie about relationships. The cast in this film was fantastic. Jude Law has never been more congenial.

@@_Colie I think he meant it so because he practiced ONS. Going frequently at the pub and getting drunk (probably to escape his real life/problems for a moment - he says smth like that to Amanda when they talk in his house, not wanting hot chocolate on his pants bit), not follow through (thus avoiding to introduce women to the kids) .. also the scene at the beginning when they introduce the characters.

Honestly irl she wouldn't have let Jude in either. Like handsome or not (and Jude definitely is), fact remains he knocks on her door in the middle of the night shouting, being drunk like a skunk. I mean, she's in a strange house, she knows nobody there, opening the door for a drunk stranger and then letting him in is a bad move. How to put your life in danger 101 basically. I like this movie and I think they pull it off because the actors sell it so well, but irl no woman with more than one braincell would have done that.
