Nice vid. I bought the x159 but the quality of the pen is not as high as it could be. One of mine fell apart in less than a year. It’s pretty cheap so it’s easy enough to replace. Don’t get me wrong, I like the X159 but in my opinion it has been superseded by the Wing Sung 630. This pen is a much closer clone of the Montblanc 149. It is truly phenomenal. It has the number 8 nib (in steel and 14kt gold options), is a metal piston filler and has a higher quality plastic than the X159. When I hold both pens in my hands and close my eyes I can’t tell the difference between the Wing Sung 630 and my Montblanc 149. It’s that good. I rarely use my x159 now. I’d recommend trying the 630 if you haven’t had the chance. It’s replaced my Montblanc 149 as my daily writer and I don’t have to be concerned about losing it when I take it out of the house.

@@tuckerseifert3977Yongsheng and Wing Sung are the same. I tried to find out the reason and apparently the name translates to English differently depending on the Chinese dialect. (Pinyan vs Mandarin) I don't get it but the person who posted it claimed to be a Mandarin speaker.

@@kattz753 wing sung is the cantonese romanization, yong sheng is mandarin romanization (and all adjacent dialects). the actual chinese characters are 永生. romanization is a very tricky discussion in chinese communities especially for the less standard dialects/languages (people will die on hills for their preferred romanization especially for cantonese). the chinese languages may share similarities, but they're all very different. a mandarin only speaker will not understand a cantonese only speaker.
this makes it even more confusing because there's two different companies that are called wing sung due to romanization.

I bought my X159 because of your video and I don't regret it, it writes perfectly. I even purchased the extra fine and it's completely smooth. At the time, I paid about $15(US). I don't use it as much because of its girth and I have smaller hands. And yes, I get the grip moods. I've noticed I'm having trouble with my preferred extra fine nibs, after reading the news in the morning, as we're in the midst of the American election cycle. I've been having to switch to slightly larger and stronger nibs, otherwise I might as well be writing with an exacto.

Thank you for the follow up video. I have MB 149 and it writes very smoothly with no hard starts, skipping, etc.-and for the price it had better be an excellent pen! I have large hands so the size works well for me (my fingers do not cramp up in long writing sessions, as sometimes happens with thinner pens), and it holds a fair amount of ink. I also have a few X159s that I thought I’d try out-for $12 each, not a big loss if it didn’t work out. Overall, the X159 writes okay for the price and the size fits in my hand well. I do have to say that the X159s haven’t held up over time, but are cheap enough that it doesn’t matter-I just replace it with another. I do take my X159 to work if I’m going to be in a sketchy place, where I may not want to break out the MB 149. Thanks again. Break time! Go for a cold brew coffee to beat the heat!

I have looked for a long time at purchasing a pen with a larger grip section but they cost such a lot , however , after getting this X159 and truly loving the larger grip size I will now save up for a grail pen , Thank you for this video , it has helped me to confirm that buying an expensive gold nib pen of a large size is the way to go for me , THANK YOU

Glad you have the X159. It is a great pen. It is affordable. The larger pen does lessen the need for a "death grip" which caused me to actually dent a sterling silver Parker Jotter years ago.
You should also try the Jinhao 9019, the Wing Sung 630 and the MaJohn P136. These pens have made me decide not to pursue acquiring the Montblanc 149.
The 9019 also has a larger converter that rivals the capacity of a piston filler pen, perhaps even larger!

Thanks for the information! I did see the other video way back. I wanted a Montblanc 149 for so long but then after residing in this fountain pen rabbit hole for a few years I have since become a Pilot Girl! If I’m going to spend $1,000+ on a fountain pen, it will be the Pilot Custom Urushi in Vermillion with a medium nib. That pen is on my list and I am currently saving for it along with the 823. I hope to have the 823 by year’s end and for the Urushi - my goal is for my 60th birthday (1 1/2 years away)! There is nothing wrong with Montblanc whatsoever but now I’m more “knowledgeable” 😂. Pilot has never let me down so I’m sticking to what has been TRIED and TRUE (TNT) for me! Now, I can go order the Jinhao X159 guilt free! Jinhao is another brand that has rarely let me down. Thanks again! God bless you. Hope Parker is doing well. Stay cool - literally!!! 🥶 The sacrifices we make for our beloved pets! 😍

I got a wingsung 630 which the " cheaper version " of the montblanc 149 with the piston and they had option for flat tops so I got flat tops and they had color options so I went with tranlucent red and opaque cap and I love this pen its so nice its like one of the nicest writing pens I have and the ink capacity OMG its so big ... not to mention that all the parts are interchangable with a montblanc 149 so ... and also I have a Majohn p136 which is the knock off version of the montblanc 146 which is the shorter piston version and also has interchangable parts so there is no good reason, unless you are talking about flex thats a whole separate thing, that anyone should be spending crazy amounts of money on products that do the same exact thing as the more expensive but hey if you have money to blow I 100% agree that you should choose the name brand because 1 they usually come with a lifetime warentee 1000 dollars worth and they have excellent customer care teams where Majohn jinhao do not ;/

Just a note for anyone who may have tried this pen when it first came out and had problems. The first few batches were horrible. There was a re-design and I believe that the nib units aren't even interchangeable between the two versions. This and the Jinhao 2019 are two of my favorite pens. The 2019 is supposedly "inspired by" the Namiki Emperor and has a humongous converter. I don't know if anyone else even makes one that big. It is a bit fatter than the X159. You can't go wrong with either one. Those #8 nibs are awesome.

26°C isn't that hot though? Maybe the humidity is high, that makes a HUGE difference!
Poor Parker.. I can recommend pet-cooling-mats available (some are even cat-nail-resistant), the ones you don't have to put in the fridge/cooler are pretty good in my experience.
(It took a week for my dog to lay on it, so give it some time)
Ahum, I actually got one in great-dane-size to put in my bed (no AC where I live 🤷‍♀️), and it's loooovely.
I never had an Jinhao X159. I always thought it seemed weird to have such a big pen with a converter.
But your review on the nib sounds pretty good, definitely intreguing.
And I am also someone who gets a death grip when I am stressed. So maybe getting a big pen is a good idea.. I never thought of it that way..!
I've heard really good things about the Wing Sung 630, which is definitely also a big pen, but a piston filler.
I would be curious what your thoughts would be on that one.
I think Chinese pens get accused for being "lookalikes", much more so than pens from any other country.
Black sigar shaped pens are not Montblanc exclusive 😉
