  • Saturn l300 oil filter housing replacement very easy job only tools other than to Jack the car up and Jack stands get a 24 24 mm socket and ratchet to remove oil filter housing cap. Also you need a 12 mm allen socket small extension to take the bolt out of center of the housing to remove it. Torque wrench is recommended to torque the bolt to 33 ft/lbs.

You are the only video that gives the tool need to tighten the housing bolt . 12 mm or 60 torques. 1 video says 10mm. .you are the right one

Yeah. On the cap. They're talking about the housing.

Mine used an inch and 1/16th socket. Aftermarket housing already. I have one of those lights, they are awesome. My housing didn't have that ear on it and it would turn. The bolt would not separate either from the housing. But thanks for these videos of yours' they have helped tremendously.

Thx for the video. I'm gonna have to break my filter housing in order to get the bolt inside, the housing keeps turning with the cap. It's my mom's car and she used to go to sears for oil change so I'm guessing they are the ones that broke the housing and put cap on way too tight. It's says 15ft lb. Right on the damn cap. Junkyard here I come. Your video helped a lot showing the layout of the whole housing ty.

Thank you! When I turn on my vehicle I see oil dripping from the housing towards the tip that screws off. I'm just watching this video to be prepared for worse scenario. Hopefully later when a do an oil change it's just a gasket and not the housing. Thank you for the video and for the help

Does anyone here know the OE number of the connected part of the housing with the engine? Please can you help me know the OE of this part?

  • @NickAlexander_is_Awesome

Is it necessary to drain the oil to do this job? My girlfriend's 3.0 v6 Saturn Vue is having a similar issue with the filter housing, but thankfully it's not leaking. The last place we took it to change the oil they said they couldn't get the cap off, so they changed the oil not the filter. The whole housing is spinning so it's almost certainly broken. We tried to spray penetrating oil on the cap and loosen it like that, it was a no go. Gonna have to get the whole housing off.

Why does the housing need that extended part on the housing? I have a 2002 L300 3.0 v6. And for some reason my housing doesn't have that extended part on it and it is not broken off. Also it leaks even after a new o ring installed.
So what is that extended parts purpose??

    • @morgandorval6412

That extended flange on the oil filter housing locks the housing in place when the bolt is tightened, and stops the housing from spinning when the filter changing cap is removed. If you don't have that flange, when you change your filter the whole housing can rotate, and work the bolt that holds it in place loose, and make a gap in the seal between the filter housing and the engine.

Good video, but the "I can feel 35lbs of torque" bit is complete bullshit.
