    "We are custodians for future generations" that's a beautiful thought. Never heard that anywhere else.

    I love this video, and the magic that it presents - especially at 3:38 when that lovely car transforms from RHD to LHD, and then back again. Seriously, though, it's beautifully produced, and Freddie's narration is spot on. It really captures what vintage motoring is all about, whichever side of the car you're sitting on.

    Fantastic clip, thank you. My father also had Delages a 1929 D6s followed by a post war bodied 6 cylinder with a cotal transmission. His first car, which we still have, was a baby Austin with a very similar body to the one shown.

    The perfection of these Delahayes made Lucie O'Reilly Schell use and choose them for her Ecurie Bleue. the blue Racing stable. That marque won also the Grand Prix of Reims in '37 with René Dreyfus on the steering wheel competing against Silver Arrows..

    At 1:19 there a permanent funnel riveted to the valve cover for the oil filler cap. That is such a testimony to automotive, metallurgical and elastomer engineers who eventually rendered oil usage virtually a non-issue.

    ...Only mod needed for driving on the road is a hi-viz sticker on the dash, detailing the ground clearance! The exhaust would be on my mind the whole time..very close for a car of that era.

    When you think that the French were the masters at producing the crème de la crème in automobiles ... and actually still are by looking at the last Bugatti "la voiture noir" which is a pure piece of art that can't be compared to any other machine on this planet

    I'm curious, what happens when pre-war cars like this or the Bugatti Type 35 flip? Driver pretty much dies when the car lands on their head right? Takes balls of steel to race these cars

    • @VintageSG
      @VintageSG Před 5 lety +2

      If you stay in the car, you die.Part thrown out?, you die.Fully thrown clear and barrel-roll?, you may well die, depends on what part of you hits what.Best not flip or crash.
      Imagine a head on. You die. See the theme?, balls of steel, fear suppressed, self preservation in a jar in the shed. Kind of like riding a motorcycle. Exhilarating and life affirming. What is life without some scary fun?

      It's the British way with such cars: use them in all weathers, thrash them around race tracks (where they often break and - sometimes - crash), and bring the pleasure of them to as many people as possible. Otherwise, they wilt in museums, static, fading, their moving parts atrophying and seizing. They are machines, after all, and machines endure longer and better when they are used regularly.
