Welcome to Chernarus in 1999 before the outbreak.
It is the Year 1999.
Chernarus was for most of it's existence part of the Eastern Block.
When the socialist USSR crumbled, it left the now independent Country in a rough State.
Some Military installations are still operated by the now Russian Army.
Overall the Citizens are comparatively poor, but in good spirit.
There were rumors, that during the Cold War some illegal tests by the Army were performed to create a Superhuman in one of the Military Bases, this was always publicly denied and could never be verified.
