Thanks Eric, for picking up my suggestion! As I mentioned on Discord, this song is a cover of a well-known song, which was in turn based on a famous Korean poem from the 1930s. So the cultural influences are definitely there. They play good old tasty rock and roll, verging into more funky/soulful territory at times (they have covered Lady Gaga). The band consists of lead singer Jayoung, guitarists Iree and Hyunjung, bassist Arem and drummer Yeongeun. They formed in late 2020 from the merger of two other bands, Rolling Girlz and Rose Quartz, hence the name. They are based out of a little basement venue in Seoul, from which they do periodic livestream concerts. Rock is still a small subculture in Korea, struggling for light in the shadow of K-pop. But RQ have a little Casey Kasem-style bullet by their name; I think they are going places. They toured the USA last year (I saw them in Seattle) and Europe this year, with Australia next on the agenda. Great live band; do not miss them if you get the chance. And also they are the sweetest people ever. They just released a new track today called Stand Up, which is great. @ROLLINGQUARTZofficial
This song "Azalea" is actually a cover of 20 year old Rock song from the Korean Rock singer Maya. Unfortunately, most people who request this cover by Rolling Quartz don't mention this important detail to reactors. Maya's "Azalea" was a huge hit when it was first released in South Korea 20 years ago. It's been covered countless times over the years since Maya's original by many Korean artists. So Rolling Quartz are just one of many. The success Maya had with it is pretty impressive, considering Rock music has never really been all that mainstream in South Korea and it still isn't. The lyrics in the chorus of "Azalea" are actually sourced from a significant Korean poem that dates back to the 1920s, during Japan's occupation of Korea. So this song's got some real historical meaning to it. I am going to go and make a formal request over at your place soon so that you react to Maya's original song! 🤘
Good reaction. This song was my first encounter with Rolling Quartz. Good band. Love them. Did see them live with meet and greet. Very nice ladies. Good live band. Thanks for this reaction. 🤘🤘🤘
Great comments, man! You nailed it! The best I've ever heard in these web surroundings.
Phew! Okay, I'm not crazy. First time I heard this I thought, "Is that Skynyrd?!" But how cool is that? Seeing an MV of five young woman from South Korea playing a tune and being catapulted back (for a few seconds) to a U.S. southern rock band from the mid-seventies. Pretty DAMN cool in my book. (The chorus reminds me of something else too, but I can't place it.) Anyway, just saw a live video of Rolling Quartz' "Fearless" and it's pretty damn cool as well! Thanks again, Eric. Always a pleasure. 🤘🕊
Amazing band.
🤘🤘🤘
🤘🤘🤘I think I found something new and interesting.
Love the staging. Phenomenal vocals.🤘😆🤘
Simple Man……. was waiting for your recognition at that point! Saw it coming!
They have some other great originals like "Blaze." They also do a great cover of Maneskin's "Zitte E Buoni." As for other influences, in their live shows, they play Lady Gaga and Nickelback.
also Fearless is a great hit by them and also their new song Stand Up I absolutely love bassist Arem and Guitarist Hyunjung (Blonde with blue tint) in this video Hyunjung has black hair with blue tint
I'm growing to really love this band. Jayoung has a great Rock voice.
Great reaction Eric! I only discovered this band recently. Love Rolling Quartz 🇰🇷 🎸 💎 !
🤘
I heard that Skynrd sound, but also sounded like Scorpion's "Always Somewhere" 🤘
They actually dropped a new song today called "Stand Up". "Fearless" and "Sing your heart out" are pretty good too.
🤘🤘
I would love to hear RQ cover "Free Bird." They would kill it.
👍👍
