  • “When we opened the Tahoe Mill Collective, we were a group of friends, all working from home, doing remote or freelance jobs and we figured, why not go in on a workspace together? The idea of coworking was not new, of course, but in mountain towns like Tahoe, the concept was a little later to arrive. We opened our location at the bottom of Alpine Meadows Road first. It’s minutes from skiing at Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley and has trails out the door in the summertime. It was an open-concept space that used to house an old ski shop. Initially, there were just a few of us working in there-in two private offices and a handful of desks in the open space but
eventually, we realized, there were a lot of locals in Tahoe or visitors to the area who needed a quiet, productive place with fast internet where they could get work done. Over the years, the space has changed and grown, and in 2019, we opened a second location of the Tahoe Mill in downtown Tahoe City, across the street from Lake Tahoe, in a building that once housed the town’s weekly newspaper. That space has seven private offices and a few desks in a communal space. Both spaces come with access to a private meeting room, which you can book as needed for a Zoom meeting or conference call or just for an hour of total silence. One of the best things about the Tahoe Mill is we’re still a mountain-town coworking space. We love and allow dogs. Bike shorts and ski pants are the standard uniform. And we’re open whenever you need us to be open. So if that means coming in early to get work done before a powder day or showing up late, after a day spent outside, we can accommodate that. Users come and go 24/7 using a keycode access. We’re a no-contact facility with copious amounts of space between desks-make a reservation ahead of time and you can arrive and check-in entirely on your own with emailed instructions. The idea of the space is to provide a spot outside of your home-away from distraction, away from that pile of laundry, away from your roommates or your kids-to give you a place to concentrate. A place where productivity is your number one goal. It’s also nice to be around other people, whether you’re exchanging ideas around the coffee machine or joining a deskmate for a midday bike ride from the office. We are not an office in any traditional sense. There’s no staff-wide meetings. Nobody is clocking you in and out. You’re on your own here. But the nice thing is, you’re also in the company of others doing the same thing. Whether you work freelance or remote or you run your own business, the Tahoe Mill is a place where you get to do your best work, while enjoying all that Tahoe has to offer.”
