  • Here's our guide to try and help fix a blocked steam generator iron. We needed a torx 10 security bit (screwdriver) which has a recess in the end for the dimple on the tory screw to fit into......about £5 on ebay. The little micro pump is 220volt and 15watt and the cheapest we saw was just under £13 again on ebay. Ours is a Swan iron but I suspect similar priced ones are much the same design. If you are in a hard water area you may need to replace the pump altogether if it's badly blocked. A tip is to run some dilute white vinegar through the iron as a preventative to limescale build up...but you already knew that. Apologies for any unintentional mansplaining. Obviously, unplug from the mains and get someone handy or qualified if you're unsure. Hope this helps.

Thank very much, I'm going to try this on my lovely AEG Perfect iron, I'm horrified that it's stopped working, can't splash out another £300 or £400 on a new one. I thought the filter was looking after it, so I'm cross with myself that I haven't run cleaning fluid or white vinegar through it before. Cheers.

In the end, this didn't really work for me, as the innards on my iron was more complicated, but it did inspire me to clean the inner tubes, as 1 was somewhat blocked. That didn't work, but over the course of a month I put white vinegar & lastly a citric acid & water solution through it and magically after a long wait it started to work again. So this may work for you dear reader too. Good luck 🤞 🍀.

Excellent video. My Bosch generator iron has just stopped steaming. I’m going to give this a go. Thanks.
