Fearing Possible Virus Spread, Volunteer Checkpoints Sprout In Pinikitan
Resident volunteers took the initiative to set up COVID-19-related checkpoints inside Sitio Pinikitan, Barangay Camaman-an, Cagayan de Oro City. This after City Hall confirmed that a sitio resident who died last April 18 was positive of the dreaded virus. The test taken before the 69-year old male died, came out only on April 23. Contact tracing has been initiated inside the sitio which resulted in the isolation of some 16 family members and other contacts. While City Hall does not support a lockdown, the checkpoints make sure that there is a controlled entry/exit of residents and non-residents in the area. Among the volunteers is the private civic organization, Philippine Rescue 2000 which set up at triage, screening and disinfection tent (Watch the other news feature re: Philippine Rescue 2000.) Sios-e Online News Magazine counted at least eight (8) checkpoints inside Sitio Pinikitan as of April 26, 2020.
