Oldest Monastery in Crete

I visited Crete oldest monastery katholiko.
Katholiko is crete's oldest monastery and was built back in the 11th century by john the hermit.
All the monks who lived here fled to gouverneto monastery due to pirate attacks, the monks had to leave crete oldest monastery katholiko back in the 17th century.
If you want to visit katholiko monastery then you must be ready for a little hike, the trip from gouverneto monastery to the bear cave (arkoudiotissa) takes about 15-20 min, from the cave you have about 15 min more before you hit crete's oldest monastery katholiko.
You can spend a few hours just looking at the ruins of katholiko monastery, I wondered why there was a bridge over to the other side at all, but if you look closely you can see a cave system in the mountains, if you want to explore more :)
Katholiko is a very exciting place to visit in Crete.
If you are fresh for a walk then you can walk through avlaki gorge which is the road under the bridge and all the way down to the beach, this walk took me about 15-20 min.
Remember to bring good shoes and water, a lot of water :D
This was my first time visiting cretes oldest monastery Katholiko and probably my favorite place so far :D

Thanks for the video. Do you have to go through the gate at Gouverneto Monastery to get to Katholico Monastery? We can only go on Friday when Gouverneto is closed but wanted to see Katholico Monastery :)
