  • Strip quilting is a method of sewing together strips of fabric to form a patchwork design. Since neckties are already conveniently shaped into strips, they are great to use for this simple piecing technique. In this video, learn to sew old neckties into a fancy new striped piece of fabric. In the next video, I'll show you how to turn transform it into a one-of-a-kind artistic poncho.
To make this project, you'll need 10-15 neckties, a sewing machine, and everything that goes with it. If you need help preparing neckties for sewing, please watch this video: • How to Get Neckties Re...

Please, what can I do with the Tie Linings? The White Guts I guess you would say. I have made several Neck Tie Quilts and a lot of the innards.

hi Pamela, That's the question of the century, and I'm afraid I am equally befuddled. I've tried dyeing some, but haven't had good luck there. I once made a heavy, kind of odd coat out of necktie linings by strip quilting them into yardage and then using that pieced fabric to create an outer garment. I've also just repurposed some of the softer pieces (and the labels) into bracelets. You can catch that video here: czcams.com/video/xBEAAxbcqyg/video.html
I haven't given up on finding uses for those lining strips. But I also haven't made much progress in solving the puzzle. Do let me know if you bump into any good ideas!! Thanks for watching. :) Nancy

I do not like raw edges will it work as well seaming

Hi Dyann, That's a great question! You can definitely use traditional seams (or finished French seams) with strip quilting. It will just create a different look and drape to your finished creation. Nancy

Do you need to use lightweight interfacing to stabilize?

Hi Christine, That might depend on your project - what are you envisioning? I used the neckties to make a lightweight poncho that I wanted to drape loosely on the body, so I did not add any interfacing to the neckties. Nancy
