I appreciate the authenticity of your channel. While some others make believe and over dramatize non-issues, we can always count on your honesty.
I totally agree most other channel’s are intent to dramatize on non issues.
You are so rght. And that's from the beginning.
Well put! I agree totally.
Well said, great comment.🇦🇺
Yessss!! And Tally ho, the other channel without drama. 👌🏼💦🍀
Best line ever- "It's really tiring to be myself..." That's why we love you Dino (and Maya), and this project! Your level of craftsmanship is unparalleled. 🙂
I must say, this has been a fun journey. With Tally Ho in the water and the Duracell project chugging along… it’s fun to see that “Magic Carpet 2”? Is getting closer every day.
Ha ha, we are all watching the same channels!!
Don’t forget RAN sailing.
Another sucker for details and planning. 👍🏻🤙🏻
@@CaptRobH i love what ran sailing are doing but, omg, the editing pace is so slow, unwatchable.
Two people with integrity have rebuilt a boat with integrity. No surprise.
Watching Aladino perform his craft is like watching a surgeon perform his. It’s mesmerising. 🙏
Due to all this effort, sweat, tears and attention to the details, Magic Carpet 2 is in a class of its own. One beautiful yacht!
Best quote ever from Alidino…
It is certainly tiring to be myself. ❤
A great possible name for your memoir when you write it. 😂
This Old Boat is looking stunning! I almost don't want the project to ever end because it is an aboslute pleasure watching a true expert craftsman hone his trade.
I think the yard watch your channel & gave you some help by not bothering you until you were nearly ready & you Myja, mentioned them in last week's episode, BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE YARD METHINKS.
These episodes are not in real time. The activity in the episodes is a few months behind the present day.
Always trying to make things perfect pays off with the self satisfaction of knowing you have done your best. It's tiring to be me, too!
Port Townsend foundry do wonderful work - what they did with Tally Ho was next level.
I am amazed at the breadth of Alideno’s skills he is competent with many tasks. The boat yard where he trained truly gave him a wide variety of tasks to master.
The color of the non skid was bright at the start now with all the beautiful wood work it really looks good. Amazing job seeing further down the road. WOW what a beautiful boat, she is looking amazing!
We have used one of those heads for almost one year now. I think it's great. We live aboard our 36' Spray. Empty the toilet every 2 weeks with 2 people. Happy Solstice!
I like how the life lines appear to be higher than the average it just makes so much more sense to feel secure when going forward.. another great episode cheers!
These definitely aren’t tripling hazards
The care, dedication and craftsmanship of your refit and episodes is no less than amazing and inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing your journey 🙏
Thank you, Aladino and Maia you are the perfect Ambassadors couple for a Professional Boat Refurbish. I love your Videos.
You are well mannered, very clean and organized.
So most would have just used a bolt for the stanchions, others may have used a mushroom hex head, but the perfectionist has to use a carriage bolt where rounds need to be made square. Beautifully done ❤
We are so very proud of both of you ❤and Dino’s master craftsmanship! She’s looking amazing!, Dell & Michelle W
Thank you!
Bravo to both of you! Magic Carpet is a beautiful testament to your hard work and tenacity.
Awesome job again guys my wife and I will be watching for the next episode on the boat 🚢 thank you for sharing your story and talent with us John and Marie
It is absurd but I loved that this week's installment had been up only 8 minutes when I got home from walking the dog and got to watch the thumbs-up count go flying up from 127 to over 500 as I type this. I am so glad you are at a point where the shed's removal is actually going to be helpful. Here's hoping all the carriage bolts went in perfectly!
a little trick i used to use when setting glass panels was to cut some pieces of electric wire cable with good insulation, cut into a inch or two in length or to what ever is needed, bury it into the sealant around the glass and this acts as a good spacer and also prevents all the sealant oozing out or being forced out under pressure or just through the weight of the glass - great job on the prisms and butterfly sky light, looks magical - love you guys
The prisms are a great touch. The light down below is wonderful and mellow. We used to call them deck lights and were very glad to have them. Ours were shaped like a lemon squeezer inverted, but the effect is the same. Getting there now guys. It's been a trip hasn't it?
We have been using the Airhead toilet on our boat for the last 4 years. We are cruising and living on the boat. Our previous boat had holding tanks. I would never go back to that. There is NO smell and we empty the solids one a month. We love it! Not having to look for a pump out station all the time. Pee bucket gets emptied every 2 or three day. You will live the Airhead. No nasty “ boat smell” anymore.
each painstaking decision and meticulous execution has paid off big time in seeing the results at this stage…very well on your way to having the finest cape george 36 in the world!…
I found it amusing that Aledino’s work with the dremel appeared to be more the work of a competent dentist than even the most thorough shipwright…
what a fine yacht she is!
cheers!
YES! The dentist analogy came to my mind too! In fact, I am lucky that my dentist seems to share some work ethics with Aladino.
Of course the downside is using dentist tools on a 37 foot boat takes time... which is a bonus to us spectators because we can enjoy the process a bit longer, and what a beautiful boat she is becoming!
It's already visible that this is a lovely beautiful boat. All the attention to detail is paying off, visually. That's a decisive factor in future costs of maintenance as well as residual value. And you'll have a safe and lovely home for naval nomads. That's about value, not costs or price.
Doing great! As always, Aladino’s precise and careful work yields magnificent results. You are looking “Bristol!”
Speechless. The beauty far exceeds other sailboats out there. So excited to see MC with a mast. Would love to see all of the locals; Duracell and Magic Carpet sailing side by side. And, of course Tally Ho, if she were ever to cross paths.
Airheads are fantastic - one of the most expensive parts of our budget narrowboat refit from 5 years ago but absolutely worth it. Its great
that ship must have been a good person in its past life... great work guys!
thanks for sharing the ride
Simply exquisite. You keep being you, Aladino.
The previously not so attractive boat is having its potential revealed to be a beautiful Swan - the result of a transformation born of skill, persistence and integrity. Thank you for your vlogs which I have been watching and thoroughly enjoying and learning from throughout.
Regards, 😁Phil, Suffolk, U.K.🇬🇧
Dear Maya and Aladino.
👍👌👏 Extremely well done again and as always (video and work). Congratulations 🎉 for having the shed up so much longer. I'm very happy and very relieved that you had these extra months. Of course the boat is looking better and better with every episode. I'm really glad that you've chosen this non slip colour. It harmonises so well with the wonderful teak wood and the bronze.
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health in particular.
The butterfly hatch and the engine room look like….eheh……like…eheh….like you both made it. It is that beautiful!!
Good to have u guys back. I am addicted to coffee and Fridays.....last Friday was tough but thankfully I still had coffee :)
hi, as usual a very good video and information, but a suggestion (please excuse me if you already know it) rather than using handheld Square to judge the "squareness" in two planes an old mechanical fitter practice is to drill a guide hole through a square block using a drill press. Then using the block to guide the drill through the surface that you are drilling through. So point form; 1) the block can be any material, size, or thickness that suits the drill you are using, 2) pressing the block against the surface automatically gives 90 degrees alignment in two planes (presuming the drill press was good). Use recommendations are to drill a shallow pilot hole to position the drill bit and if possible clamp the block in place using the pilot hole as a location. If the block is made out of suitable material it can be used multiple times, like when fitting stanchions. Again thank you for the effort and content in your channel. bye Duncan
I always love the work that Aldino does, he is so precise and meticulous. Everything comes out so well. Can not wait to see it in the open and standing the mast.
You’re a true craftsman Aladino.
You’re both doing an amazing job!
Maya and Aladino,
There are several refits and builds going on on CZcams, however..........your refit is, like Leo Sampson's Tally Ho, a work of art. It helps to have a "Swiss" perfectionist at the helm and an "Artiste" as his helpmate. Together, with the input and help from Maya's father (and a host of others), Magic Carpet II is not only a physical and mechanicaly perfect example of quality workmanship and attention......a LOT of attention......to detail, but you have the most pleasing, estheticaly beautiful vessle that we all really enjoy watching her come together. Aladino is an amazing craftsman who doesn't let one little element hinder his progress. And Maya......not only have you demonstrated to us your ability to grasp the "bull by the horns" and dive right in and help, even though at times, it was such an overwhelming trek for you, a beautiful musician, who had to endure the mundane in sanding and varnishing....(very monotonous tasks that try my patience also) wondering when you will ever be done. But the end results is a vessle that will give you both years of pleasing travel in a beautiful boat. All the sweat, toil and effort that you both have expended in the refit will soon be a thing of the past, knowing that soon, you both will be enjoying the fruits of so much labor. We have seen the other side of the coin with work that was not near the quality of your work. Your efforts are stunning. Bravo, Bravo Bravo. We all cannot wait to see this beautiful craft back in the water and you both sailing off to new adventures with Magic Carpet II.And a special shout out to Maya's selection of music to accompany the videos. Having a violinist in my family, I really, really enjoy you playing for us, Maya. Such beautiful, soothing and inspiring music.
Aladino....Why didn't you put the glass in the butterfly hatch and make it flush? Is there a reason? Personal choice? Keep up the good work....a boat technician in La Rochelle, France.
I'm sure my thought process is not unique but there is no-one more deserving than Aladino for really quality head😅
Your boat is really looking immaculate. All the precision work pays off. Not long for the big day when she gets launched.
I’ve just discovered your channel - binge watching. I’m undecided if I am watching first for the music and second for the boat work. I love the music and would love a Magic Carpet playlist. You are a handsome couple and a pleasure to watch, your talents are exceptional. I look forward to splash day.
Nice to see her looking so good and to se you both looking a little calmer and relaxed. On a different note entirely, I think you should consider doing an entire episode about your dad, his life and adventures and influence on both of you. I bet he has some stories to tell and you should get them on tape while you still can. I remember having a favorite uncle I always wanted to get on tape who had fabulous stories to tell, an alas I never did.
Aladino you are a master of your trade i love watching you work and, not forgetting Maya who does some excelent work on the boat you should both be very proud
I think the composting toilet is a big mistake. They are just so painful. It’s a such a quality build and having stinky composting toilet will just drive you crazy. Constantly separating pee and poo yuk. 😂 I like my electric toilet with a big macerator pump never had any issues and self-tailing winches is a must. Anyway good luck. 👍
It’s good to see both in a much better place in yourselves. If you have time Maya could you indulge us with more of your music. After the shed comes down, should you not have some time out to re-nourish mind sprit and soul. Watching Sailing Magic Carpet, genuinely makes me smile, I find myself verbally expressing wonder at the quality and finish of your work, your decision making skills, project management and production quality. Much love.
I am blown away with Deanos focus he is truly a great worker the lad never stops that boat is looking fantastic a credit to you both its bean a long hard slog 😍👍🤣
“Anyone who gets too excited about a head on a boat is not to be trusted”. Too funny. I am not “too excited” about the Nature’s Head we have used for 14 years. But I can say that on balance, the few minor cons do not compare to the problems we had with standard head/holding tank arrangements we had before. I am very excited about those bronze chainplates though. Sail-on!
We find the best answer is both a composting toilet and normal holding tank. You will need two urine tanks as one fills up, you can get caught short will a full tanks. The solids part is great no smell and it looks like normal soil. Composting toilets are great for boat yard and marina use. A little inconvenient emptying the urine tank every three to four days for two people but when you are offshore we switch to holding tank which can be pumped overboard (3nm of shore something like that.)which is more convenient than trying to empty a urine tank overboard on a moving boat.
You just need to take a few minutes to do a little fiddling around for us all !!🎶🎵🎼
Maybe tinted glass in the butterfly hatch
Beautiful work and a beautiful video, as always. You both look a lot more relaxed!
Well done Aladino you have done the most amazing job on your New Boat. And Mia such a wonderful job of documenting, your camera work has been amazing. I am so jealous of the great experiences you will have in your new home. I am getting closer to getting my own Boat Now and I have learned so so much. As a Single Person I have No Aladino so will have to try and do as much as possible myself. But I am sure I will be able to instruct and know what needs to be done so that in its self is a major thing for me, and to know what tools and products are the best.I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that.
As far as the head goes… we have the same in our RV. You can switch the handle to the other side! We also shower in the same space and place a bin bag over it to stop water entering it! …we go 3weeks and no chemicals 😊
I love the classic look of your external chainplates. 👍👍👍
😊Zealousness over The Head is indeed suspect! (While transiting The Mississippi, Source to Sea in a solo paddled tandem canoe, I used doggy dookey bags, stored in a plastic coffee container until proper disposal during shore visits.)
I think your head will work fine. No changing crap lines or crap pumps or crap tanks.
I really appreciate your perfectionism. Ya'll work hard and suck it up and get it done......Bravo to you guys.
She's coming along beautifully! :)
The Pride and Workmanship is top notch by both of you. Great Job. Keep up the great work.
quote of the day “it is much more tiring being myself.” 😂😂😂😂 bahahaha Alidino thats what you a great shipwright.
Haha, thanks Tim.
Congratulations on a terrific job EXTREMELY well done 👍. She looks ship shape.
"It's tiring to be myself". I can imagine you get tired often.
It ain't easy being Aladeno . It's tiring 😅.. laughed at that one ..she's looking so beautiful 😍..the boat that is...
Are there anymore CZcams boat builders as skilled as your two and the TallyHo crew. Simply outstanding work. Interesting that you are both shipwrights. I’ve sent a dozen or so to your channel to take a look.
A couple of channels had done a hybrid install where they created a small holding tank and ran the “number 1” directly to the tank. Evidently, the liquid tank in a composting system does fill quicker than one normally expected and created late night sloshing removals…but I have no personal experience. Everything looks great and we look forward to life without the shed.
Thank you Maya and Aladino, i have been following your channel for close to 3 years now and its usually my highlight for the week. ❤
Why did you use a black compound instead of a white compound to seat the prisms?
This seemed so far away and now it's here. Y'all have , and are, doing amazing work.
Well, it may be tiring to be Aladino, and I can certainly understand that, the best line ever was Maya‘s observation about not trusting people who are overzealous about a toilet!
Well done guys cant wait to see "The Magic Carpet Ride" when she sails again
The boat is looking BEAUTIFUL. Look forward to seeing you two under sail. Very exciting times ahead.
Dino's work reminds me of a visit to the dentist, always the suction (vacuum cleaner) while drilling👍
I would be happy for him to be my dentist with his drilling, suction and filling skills!
Great episode you guys! Must be a great feeling to be ready to face outdoor weather again. Salutations from Victoria! 🇨🇦
No doubt you'll be strategizing Splash dates soon! Exciting days are here!
It's an amazing accomplishment, so far.. We can see how knackered you are! You're nearly there brother. Go Go Go!
Timing is impeccable, isn’t it? So happy the way it all worked out!
I've liked watching the refit, more than that, I'm looking forward to violin concertoes in exotic locations!
The detail and finish of those chainplates.... wow..
Amazing craftsmanship and attention to every detail. I so enjoy watching this work of art unfold week by week. Thank you for sharing the story and beautiful transformation! Both of you are wonderfully talented artists! I hope you're making great celebrations plans for launch!
I didn't get a notification on your amazing video again! So glad I found it. Another awesome video
Love your channel and your craftsmanship is beyond compare! I agree with your comments about marine heads, thankfully I cruised extensively when it was legal to pump overboard if you were offshore. I’m sure it’s too late but I would have advised you to mount the head low enough so that your knees were even or above your hips which improves bowel evacuation and keeps your center of gravity low when the sea state gets high.
I hope you like the desicating toilet. On my little 22' trimaran I got rid of the portable toilet which was always a problem- smelly after one day, no place to dump it in the FL Keys or Bahamas. I made a desicating toilet with a urine separator- a 5 gal bucket, the urine diverter and a lid that fit the bucket. I use coconut coir for the medium. What a difference. There is no smell even without a sealing lid or a fan. It last at least 5 days with two people. Just pull the bag out and store it in a heavy yard bag until there is a place to put it in the trash.
I've mentioned before but the attention to detail is amazing. You are going to have the finest, refitted boat in the world!
This boat will be soooo pretty... 😍
Looking forward to next week ❤
Maya speaks Swiss at about 21:15! Magnificent work again! All looking gorgeous. (Even the head 😂)
311th tag-along view happening, 56th LIKE posted. Good luck on the next phase.
PS- keep your medium wet but not sloppy and turn regularly, it takes a bit of time for the 'bugs' to get established.
I always look forward to Saturday morning to how you have progressed. She is looking great
Compost toilet, not your best decision. Fantastic work for so many years. Small space in a boat, I think will live to regret this one.
Take care looking forward to seeing you in the water M
Everything is looking great. You've really moved along and accomplished a lot with those extra months under the shed. My favorite head has always been a stainless steel bucket, but...
Hi P.S, you can also make a block that has the hole pattern that you require, i.e. once clamped in place you can dill all four holes. Bye Duncan
Ah, stanchions going on, that always feels like a big change, suddenly the decks begin to feel like boat decks. You can really start to feel the protection they offer and be aware of the absence of the mast.
thank you for including a pic of the products you have chosen, very very helpful. I had actually joined your patron in hopes of gaining that information but even with asking in patron I got not sure answer so the reason I joined was not there so left. So when I saw the pic included I jumped for joy!!!! Epic!!!! love it. You have both done incredible work and the boat is stunning.
Your patience and persevering expertise is truly inspiring!
What is Aladino going to do once the boat is complete? He'll be out of a job! Haha, just kidding. Boat looks amazing guys, keep up the great work!
Great work both of you! Always!
I think you will like your composting marine head. We have had several boats, and each one we have retrofitted to a marine head. We chose a “Natures head”, but I believe the “Air Head” is much the same. The operation is simple and easy to explain to guests. No more clogged valves and tanks and smelly hoses. Just vent your head per manufactures instructions, and you will have a trouble free experience. Cheers!
What a beautiful boat!
