  • Interview of my much beloved Mr. Willson-Piper, the guitarist from the church. This interview is taken from the radio promo CD / vinyl circa Starfish period (1988), "Sum of the Parts", which also includes acoustic versions of Under the Milky Way, Antenna and Spark.
Marty's charismatic, articulate, expressive personality, plus his charming English accent, never fail to mesmerize me.

My oh my, what a beautiful speaking voice. The 1980s were incredible for Australian music and The Church were the best of the best. We were so blessed back then.

I saw them live in Raleigh NC and it was probably the best two guitar performance I had ever seen.. I can't remember if Gold Afternoon fix had been released. Most of the magic I found to be in the songs from Starfish... It was such a magical night!!!!!!!!

From Raleigh as well man. I've seen them three times over the years. One of my favorites. The lushness of Heyday versus the somewhat starkness of Starfish right afterwards shows the flexibility of their sound. Never get tired of their music.

The Church IS a rock group that isn't stupid, that's why it can both never be the most popular band of the planet (which is perfectly fine) and present a new version of themselves on each album.

"There isn't any rock groups" - 20 years too early Marty. I think rock died about 2006, although it was in the terminal ward from about 1998 with a brief respite in 2002 (Hives-Vines-White Stripes)
