I sometimes include acrylic ink in my artwork but I realized that not all of you have tried them. So in this video I’ll show you what they’re like and my experience with them - all the while making a color chart for my future reference.
I'm trying 3 different brands of acrylic inks, FW by Daler Rowney, Amsterdam Acrylic inks and Acrylic ink by Liquitex.
I invest a lot of time and love in filming and editing the videos so I'm happy for your support. Please consider leaving a thumbs-up and subscribe to the channel if you would like to see more videos like this one :)

I keep reading we must be aware not to use more than 50% water with our acrylic paint, or it will become unstable in future, flaking or lifting off the paper or canvas. Various paint demonstrations or tutorials have mentioned this, saying it seems many artists are not aware of this. I know I wasn't. With that info in mind, I tend to now mix my paints with just a very small amount of water, and when wanting a more transluscent effect, I use a glazing liquid to my paint, keeping the water content to less than 50% of the amount of paint I use. Your work is very beautiful. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you!

What glazing products do you use? Do you add them to your paint?

  • @ZadenZane

I'm not into watercolour but I do sometimes water down acrylic paint for a watercolour-like effect. It works with any type of acrylic paint from heavy body to fluid to ink (which is just ultra-runny acrylic paint) but the runnier your paint is to start with, the better it works; acrylic ink works best. Also acrylic ink makes a great drawing ink. In my experience black acrylic ink flows longer and better from a dipping pen than any kind of ink. Irongall ink is great if you like a patchy shaded effect and gives cleaner lines than anything else and Indian ink tends to be slightly glossier, but acrylic ink is the best all-round drawing ink in my experience.

I love using these inks with my watercolors. Sometimes adding granulation medium. It creates great effects! I also add ball bearings to my inks to keep them mixed well. -Just make sure that you clean them well with alcohol before adding them to the bottle. There is oil on them from manufacturing. Thank you for sharing this video!

@@SamanthaWisteria I've not tried mixing in the granulation medium in the traditional way yet, though I will try that soon. Watch a couple (or all, because she's awesome!) of Jean Lurssen Watercolors' videos. That's how I do that. Good luck!

Mont Marte acrylic ink comes with ball-bearings in the bottle but they put droppers in the lids, as do several other brands. Maybe the droppers are handy for some people, but for me they just get in the way, so I pour my inks into little half-ounce (15ml) glass bottles which are also great if you like to mix your own colours. They cost £15 for a set of 12, which is £1.25 each (so about $1.40) but to me they're worth it.

Hi Marie Louise! I have lately been finding my way back to creating art. I have been working as an Art Director for the last 15 years. So other than sketching I have not been painting for the pure joy of it since university. I’m gravitating alot towards landscapes and the last months I have really been struggling with gouache. Quickly going into too much detail and trying to keep it realistic and tight with much frustration as a resultat. After finding your channel I have dusted off some old acrylics and inks and the joy of painting loosely with this nedium is next level. So thanks for inspiring and guiding and bringing back both joy and confidence to me. Please keep doing what you so. /Martin from Sweden.

I watched this video a couple of weeks ago after getting my email notification, (which I throughly enjoy getting) and finally broke out all my acrylic inks. I had a lot I never used because somehow they didn't attack my eyes during decision making. Now I have a completely different feeling about all the inks. By making the color swatches I am now able to really see what the colors will look like when they are dry. It was actually fun making the reference carts too. Thank you for sharing...🥰

I love color charts :) especially if I'm feeling stuck, or just don't want to think too too much, charts let you play with color, without needing to have a painting in mind.
I've used alcohol ink, super fun.. but I know they're a totally different thing. So I'm curious of the differences from straight watercolor. Obviously it's pigment mixed with a very liquid a acrylic medium? So dries permanent. I can't afford food let alone more art supplies, if it were just me I'd probably go for art stuff before food😆😊but🤷🏻‍♀️want to care for my family of course :)
But I love learning about stuff I've never tried and adding it to my wish list of fun things :)
So, I assume that, once dry, they at permanent and won't move, unlike watercolor?
    Fun little video!
    I hope you're doing well my friend!!🥰❤

    • @jonaeflure
      @jonaeflure Před rokem

When you add the ink to water it acts like a watercolor. It's dries in about the same time. You can also use an embossing heat tool to dry it even quicker and it won't move the inks your aiming to dry.
