    Another way to go about it if you want a lower profile look while maintaining functionality is to simply use a shift light, and mount it in the hole the wires were run through inside the cab on this video. The shift light is really a small device when you take it out of the shell. MCM has a good vid on that as well. Great video though!

    • @GilBatesLovesyou
      @GilBatesLovesyou Před 9 lety +2

      For the lowest profile it's better just to buy a whole gauge cluster from another year/trim of car with a tachometer already on it and wire it up. Probably harder, if the harnesses don't plug and play with eachother nicely, you could have a lot of wires to cut and splice.

    B Rizzo RPM drops when the car changes to a higher gear. Higher gear requires more power to make the car run.

    • @brenxbux
      @brenxbux Před 9 lety +1

      The DarkDragonWing Yeah i know but you drive an automatic car right? so how does the car know when to change gears?

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  Před 9 lety

      B Rizzo There is a computer inside the car that will change gear when the car reaches 6000 RPM.

    • @bobbyd9583
      @bobbyd9583 Před 9 lety +1

      The DarkDragonWing
      You do realize your transmission is NOT a typical late model TCU equipped version?
      Your ECM controls some facets of your transmission (overdrive lock up) but you have a standard 4 speed hydraulic transmission.
      this means gears 1-3 are not controlled by anything but the hydraulic valve body. and 4th gear (Overdrive) is controlled by a lock up torque converter.
      Stop spreading bad information.

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  Před 9 lety +1

      Bobby D Do you realize that when I say computer or ECU, I generalize it for
      others. Can you see he is a kid? Speaking of deep details, if he wants
      to know more, I can break it down for him.
      Obviously I don't know as much as you do. I want to learn more about the auto transmissions, the
      one with ECM and TCU. Can you explain them a little bit more? Make a video
      about them would be awesome. I'll be awesome to learn the right information
      from the right person.

  • @GilBatesLovesyou
    @GilBatesLovesyou Před 9 lety +2

    Hi, looks like on Mirages it's harder than this (looking at the wiring diagram,) but most cars to install a tachometer you don't have to put it to a wire on the distributor and drill the hole through the firewall, etc. On my 86 Civic I put a tach on and it had a wire in the harness going to the speedometer/gauges, and I just spliced that wire and I was done. So usually if the car has a trim level where it came with a tach (my Civic was the lowest trim level,) then a wire for a tachometer signal will be in the harness somewhere, and no need to run it from the distributor.
    Looks nice, though, your tach. I bought a cheaper little 2" one for my car, and didn't get a big one like that. Now I kinda wish I got the big one with the light and stuff, would be more fun.

    • @DarkDragonWing
      @DarkDragonWing  Před 9 lety +1

      GilBatesLovesyou Nice! Yeah, kinda tricky for the Mirage. Big ones are great, really cool and fun to look at. The only downside to this gauge is that the needle doesn't have light it at night, so it's little hard to see where it's at. cheers

  • @user-kp5pe2cr2i
    @user-kp5pe2cr2i Před rokem

    I'm not gonna go with this tach. Not because of the installer - It was the quality of the tach itself. Clearly the needle is lagging and the needle light burned out almost immediately. But I appreciate this post very much. I saw everything that I needed to see - also a nice clean install by you.

  • @robertrijkelikhuzein9863

    I cant wait to install this on my 99 prelude. I love my auto prelude. Does anyone else like hondas? I added a few extra horsepower my adding cold air induction on the beast. Fastest thing in my school. I once raced the sex ed teacher. I guarantee I was the first one to finish. Another time, I raced the groundskeeper and one agaisnt his honda crx that was lowered and had a great exhaust on it . I just turned 40 and want to win some more races. I havent lost one yet. I am about to install a boost gauge for when I finally get a turbo. Ive always wanted to go to a honda car meet, but they say I am not cool enough. I think my prelude is cool. Who else like honda?
