    I was wondering if you have advice about my moon cactus. I have had it since May but noticed it was taking a long time for the soil to get dry so I waited about a month till it was fully dry before I watered it again. I didn’t realize it was too much as it had root rot. I cut off the blackening parts so only a very small section of cactus is left; the top orange scion is fine for now but will not survive without being grafted to another cactus. Can I use any cactus like the
    Stenocereus Pruinsus Cactus or mini cactus to graft the Scion for moon cactus? I already have the mini cactus. Or would you recommend another cactus or can I keep the original cactus in the soil though it has been substantially cut with only a tiny bit of root left?

    • @ChristopherTradeshow
      @ChristopherTradeshow Před 3 lety +1

      They actually need very little water. I just watered mine a tiny bit last night, haven't watered for 4 months too. You also want to make sure the soil is dry before repotting

    • @cricketjem119
      @cricketjem119 Před 3 lety

      @@ChristopherTradeshow thanks. How do you know it needs water? Soil seems to get dry every week during summer and longer during fall. I waited a month to water since it was fall but ended up giving it too much water (though it didn’t seem like a ton at the time as i didn’t realize it would take longer to dry out with less sunshine during fall). I use a special succulent mix and there is hole in pot. Next time I graft it to a new cactus I will water very little. The tricky part is when do I know it’s time to water since it will for sure be dry after a month or even sooner.

    • @hales6547

      @@cricketjem119 id google signs cactus need water. You could get a moisture meter, dont water til it is completely dried. Maybe try letting it dry, and water frkm the bottom instead. Succulents benefit from this. They only take uo the water theu will use. Just fill a small basin of water nad place the pot in for 10 15 min you will see the water go down a lot, and the top of the soil will not get wet. If you dont have a moisture meter, my pots with drainage holes big enough i poke my finger thrj the botto. And see how dry it is down there. If its moist at the bottom of the pot, wait. If you arent sure if its dry enough, wait. Always reer on the side of underwatering, because its a lot easier to add more water than to save an overwatered plant

      Since the yellow will not survive on it's own, is there anything you can do with it, if you do not want to graft it to another cactus? The base on my yellow rotted so I am left with the yellow part. Thank you!

    I have a pink moon cactus for about 6 months now and it's been beautiful to say the least. It started growing a pup a few weeks ago, now all of a sudden it started turning black on one side of it and when I touched it to see how bad it is, it started oozing clear liquid.
